The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, June 3, 2020 B- 3 MINUTES Continued from page 1 PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the APPA RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Presbyterian Wesleyan VIEWPOINT Continued from page 1 tant that couples pray to- gether, read the Bible to- gether and worship as a family. It is true that fami- lies who pray together stay together. There are many things today that act as enemies to the family. Our educa- tional system and govern- ment often are negative when it comes to the fam- ily. Many laws are passed and Court decisions that hinder God's plan for the family. The Internet, T V, universities, and entertain- ment often hinders God's plan for the family. Marriage is to be one of equality and fidelity. The big words in marriage are love, kindness, forgive- ness, and affection. We must exclude all others who would attempt to hin- der God's plan for mar- riage. Guard it, enjoy it and fulfill God's beautiful idea we call 'marriage'. ulation saints, whom the Lord warns, "hold fast… if therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief" (Rev. 3:3). Those believers will have to hold fast to their truth, and en- dure to the end of the Trib- ulation to be saved (Mt. 10 :22; 24:13). You don't have to hold your truth fast to be saved—but you should hold it fast as if you did, as if your very eternal life de- pended on it. A fter all, the eternal life of your hearers will depend on how tight a grasp you maintain on the truth of Paul's gospel. God promised the peo- ple of Israel, "I will give you pastors according to Mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and under- standing" ( Jer. 3:15), and He will make good on that promise in the kingdom of heaven on earth that He went on to describe (v.16 - 18). What's a pastor accord- ing to God's heart? Well, God said of those same pas- tors in the kingdom, "I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more" ( Jer. 23:4). Thus a pastor according to God's heart will hold the truth fast, and not allow fear to cause him let it go. That's the kind of pastors God will have in the king- dom of heaven. And if the pastors of our grace church- es will hold fast to Pauline truth without fear of what it will cost, all of God's peo- ple can experience a little bit of heaven on earth now, in this dispensation. We have God's Word on it. If you're not a pastor, why not encourage your pastor to stand firm with all the pas- tors who are "holding fast the faithful word? " When we begin to doubt our worth and potential in the eyes of God we must immediately consider the cross and the great price that was paid to pay our sin debt. The cross and the atonement of Jesus Christ demonstrate our value and the love that God has for us. No other event in histo- ry depicts the value of men, women and children like the cross for it is there we see our worth from Gods' perspective. Beware that Satan's lies do not keep you from ac- complishing all that God will challenge you to do. You are valuable to God and He will help you become all that you can be. ity never makes sense and seldom ends up accomplish- ing much except being de- structive and dangerous. What happened in Min- neapolis should not have been done and I agree it only added to the tension between the blacks and the law enforcement officials. My prayer goes along with Rodney of the Cali- fornia incident and "Why can't we just all get along? " I heard a minister speak- ing about it being terrible but we can't stop the end, but I'm here to say we can all discipline ourselves to think more of others and less of ourselves. God spoke it well when He said LOVE EACH OTHER. Memorial Day has come and gone and we didn't have company. I really enjoy our family and it is great to share meals with them but this holiday we enjoyed be- ing outdoors and working on "together" projects. We actually made progress on getting some things done. We are still working on cleaning the tree mess and have hauled three or four loads of wood to our friends who burn wood. It looks like we'll have about two or three winter's of fire- wood for them. I hope what we are taking to their house will be a big help for them. Several people have told me they enjoyed what I said about watching the grass grow but I was being some- what serious as it seemed as though our yard grew at least two inches over night. Being retired your lawn be- comes something to look forward to, so I try not to complain. Our Sunday school teach- er brought us a good lesson about not being slothful nor immoral with our decisions concerning dealings with the world. It was brought out again loving one anoth- er. Our worship lesson was about respect and the prop- er respect we must have for ourselves and respect for others. We don't get to pick and choose who we are to love because God said to love all people even if they are hard to love and show respect. Our lesson ended with the Bible's version of the golden rule about doing to others as we would have them do unto you. But we never realize God needs us to go first in the treatment stage, before we can hope for a return. I have often said if everyone would do this then we would all be covered under the golden rule. Well go out next week and strive to be a blessing and go first in being nice to everyone. Pentecostal Nazarene "Never stand between a dog and the fire hydrant"— John Peer. This week, PAWS is featuring a fun-loving young fell- er named Appa, who is a happy-go-lucky hound husky mix. He loves chasing toys in the dog yard at PAWS. His legs are quite long and he appears to be skipping as he is in pursuit of the toy. He has thick, short fur with beauti- ful markings of black, tan and white. Appa is a little over a year old and can be adopted by calling 812-354-9894. SOMETHING NEWSWORTHY? We will be having church services starting on July 14 at 10 :15 a.m. We will also be live streaming our services on Facebook live. I am believing that great expectations will be in the heart of the Church (those hungry and thirsty for a move of God which has not been for a number of years) for a harvest of souls, a great awakening or better yet a re- vival of the saints in and of themselves where the Ho- ly Spirit will have free reign in and through them. So church will be stepping in the things of God, stepping up in the power of the Ho- ly Spirit, and stepping out in faith in the newness and freshness of the Holy Ghost. What makes a community great? In Acts 4:32-35, Luke de- scribes the first Christians (not even yet called that) as having "everything in common," with no "needy person among them." Theologian Fred Crad- dock says the early church embodied both the Old Testament ideal and the Greek ideal, "which held that 'for friends all things are common.' Clearly, Luke is presenting the early church as the em- bodiment of both the Jew- ish and Greek ideal com- munity in which unity and charity thrive." Office hours: 9 a.m.- noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secre- tary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812.354.3028 Sunday school and evening worship has been canceled until further notice. There will be morning worship at 10 :30 a.m. Never found the time I knelt to pray but not for long; I had too much to do. I had to hurry and get to work for bills would soon be due. So I knelt and said a hurried prayer and jumped up off my knees. My Christian duty was now done. My soul could rest at ease. All day long, I had no time to spread a word of cheer. No time to speak of Christ to friends. They'd laugh at me I'd fear. No time, no time, too much to do; That was my constant cry. No time to give to souls in need, but at last the time, the time to die. I went be- fore the Lord. I came, I stood with downcast eyes. For in his hands, God held a book; It was the book of life. God looked into his book and said, "Your name I cannot find. I once was going to write it down but nev- er found the time." If anyone has a need, you can call the pastor at 812-354- 3028.
