Mark Wade, Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10 :30 a.m. As we read throughout the Bible, God's people at many times, have to lean in and pay close attention to what he is teaching them. Often the sit- uations, and circumstances that they experienced didn't seem to make sense. We hear the platitude all the time, "God works in mysterious ways." Sometimes, at least for me, I use that to brush some- thing off without having to ac- tually think about it. It acts as an answer when I don't have one or want to avoid the hard work of looking for one. As many of us know, our state as well as many others, are beginning their reopening plans. It would be easy for us to simply look forward to what we can now do that we have been held back from. But my challenge is this, to stop, ponder, and pray, what has God taught you during this time? This is the hard work, because it's the heart work. Before we move on, how has God taught you, and what has he taught you? For me, God has been teaching me, there has to be a better way. It's easy to go through the day to day rhythms of life, and miss the pressure that it builds up, till it's too late. I believe in some ways, this season of pandem- ic (which we ought to under- stand is far from over), is a sign of God's mercy. If you have been following along with our current sermon se- ries you might remember that VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Sunday morning wor- ship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m.; Bible school at 10 :30 a.m. Mother's Day The Bible says, "Honor your father and mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you" (Exodus 20 :12). "Children, obey your par- ents in the Lord, for this is right. 'Honor your father and mother,' which is the first commandment with prom- ise; 'that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth'" (Ephesians 6:1). Because He lives. John Manges, Minister WINSLOW CHRISTIAN CHURCH Corner of Lafayette and Walnut Pastor 812-753-3539 Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; We extend a warm welcome to everyone. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister we determined that for many of us our rhythms of life, have led us for a long time toward trouble and anxiety. For all of us however, this pandem- ic has broken up our daily rhythms and thrown them out with the bath water. Maybe that's for the best. Now that I have been forced to slow down during this time, there is a lot that I don't want to re- turn to. But on the flip side of that, there is more I want to incorporate, like rest. So that I can spend more time, listen- ing intently to what God has for me. Vincennes Ave. Petersburg 812-354-4424 or 812-582-0240 Services will be cancelled until further notice. Current service can be found using the following internet link: https://youtu. be/-y8KB1TFORE "Joshua said to the people, 'You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord for your- selves, to serve Him.' And they said, 'We are witness- es'" ( Joshua 24:22). Witnesses are required to tell the truth. They give information that they know to be true and factual based on their experience. To wit- ness against ourselves is to tell on ourselves. This is do- ne by our very actions. When I love and obediently serve the Lord, I am showing that I belong to and have a strong relationship with Him. When I behave selfishly, I am show- ing that my relationship is not what it should be. Every- thing I think, say, and do has an impact on someone, even if it's only me. God wants my impact to be so good on me and those around me that they will want to come to faith in Him, wanting a bet- ter way as lived out by some- one seen close at hand. Do yourself a favor by strengthening your relation- ship with God and watch how He can change your habits, your speech, and even your thoughts to coincide with His, being a witness recraft- ed to lure others on the jour- ney to perfection in Him. Ten words and eleven syllables. About the same length as your phone num- ber. But what a life-chang- ing verse to learn and live. Notice the opening words- not IF but "what time" or "when." Fear, in its various forms, besets us every day. And notice what Psalm 56:3 doesn't say: when afraid, I will panic; when afraid, I will grow depressed and give up; when afraid, I will run and hide. Instead, it says, "when afraid, I will trust in You" in God's providence, in God's promises, in God's pro- tection, in God's power, in God's peace. Faith is being confident that God's posi- tives are greater than our negatives, and that his prov- idence is overshadowing our lives. Faith in a faithful God is the only lasting antidote for debilitating fear. Chad Searls, Pastor PIKE COUNTY CENTER FOR WOMEN'S MINISTRIES Phone —812-582-8222 Office hours: Open Mon - day and Friday, 9 a.m. till noon; Thursday open from TWIN OAKS CHURCH 1911 E. Co. Rd. 650 N. Regular services: Sun- day school, Junior church and youth class 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; evening service 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday evening prayer and praise service 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to each service. Almost without excep- tion, when God prepares to save a nation, he will be- gin with a praying mother. Hannah brought her frus- trations to the Lord. She prayed in her pain. She prayed when she was mis- understood. She kept pray- ing even when the preach- er misunderstood and mis- judged her. She kept pray- ing when there was no assurance that things would ever really be any different. Of all the blessings that you thank God for, stop now and thank God specifically if you had a praying moth- er. If you are a mother, stop this minute and ask God to help you in your "closet as- signments." Battles that af- fect the destiny of nations are won and lost in the prayer closets of praying mothers. Let's be faithful in this area, even if we fail in some others. God Bless America. Thought to Ponder...In prayer, it is more essen- tial to have a heart without words than words without a heart. In what ways do you do things out of need or ob- ligation rather than for God's glory? How do you think meaning is found in Christ rather than accom- plishments?
