APRIL 2013 HOMES PLUS Maintenance continued from Page 4 frame, fuel begins to deteriorate, and creates varnish in the fuel system, causing poor run-ability or nonstarting." As far as the lawn itself goes, feeding the lawn periodically and allowing the grass to remain at a height of 3 inches or longer will help prevent damage due to lack of moisture and nutrients, he said. "During a typical spring growing season, the average consumer may mow once a week or twice if they are mulching," he said. "We recommend customer's allow their grass to remain longer, roughly three inches, for proper moisture and nutrient retention." Also individuals who are mulching their grass will have much better results with longer grass, Flint said. Leaving the grass taller will also help it survive during harsh summers like the area saw last year, and it will help prevent it from going dormant or drying. "During the wet season, fertilizing and aerating the lawn will not only create a lush and thick lawn, it will also aid in preventing weed growth," he said. "For every inch of grass above the ground, approximately an inch of root exists below. This makes it vital to leave grass longer during dry months, to allow the roots to absorb any nutrients and moisture possible." When preparing for spring there are a 5 number of services available to customers at Proven Power Inc., Flint said, including pickup and delivery of equipment, a mobile service truck which can maintain and conduct light repairs on the customer's property or job site and a Saturday quik-serve maintenance program, which allows customers to bypass the typical one-to-two week spring backlog, and have their tractors and equipment maintained in less than 30 minutes, while they wait. "Big box stores typically have machinery sent to off-site service hubs where repairs may take many weeks or months prior to being returned to the customer," he said. "When customers purchase a piece of equipment from Proven Power, their machine is serviced and maintained on-site, by John Deere factory trained technicians, who specialize in John Deere equipment." If you are in the market for a new piece of equipment this spring, Flint suggested purchasing a quality machine from a reputable dealership. "Customer's should ask prying questions such as, how would this machine function on my property? How easy is the machine to maintain? How many years of service can I expect out of this machine?"
