MARK PATTON JAMES RICCABONI PAT BITTERBERG STEVE BAUMAN $909 MILLION Former Packer William Henderson owns 3 frozen yogurt shops, plans more By Katherine Michalets Special to The Freeman Charles Auer/Freeman Staff BROOKFIELD – Community is the focus of former Green Bay Packer William Henderson these days and he is able not only to create a sense of community, but he is giving back to it by operating several sweetFrog Premium Frozen Yogurt locations. Henderson operates three Wisconsin sweetFrog franchises – in Brookfield, Plover and Whitefish Bay – and is planning to open a fourth in De Pere soon. By having the sweetFrog franchise territory that stretches from Minnesota through Illinois to Kentucky, Henderson has a lot of room for the future. After 12 years as a fullback for the Packers, Henderson was ready to try something new and going into business, while giving back, was what he was drawn to. He met sweetFrog founder Derek Cha three years ago and his interest was piqued when he learned about the business. "I was looking for a way to do business in Wisconsin and bring an amazing product," said Henderson, who currently lives with his family in Virginia. One of the things Henderson loves about sweetFrog is that it is a healthier treat for families. "I couldn't sell something that I thought would be unhealthy," he said, adding there are many yogurt flavors and a wide variety of topping options in his business. He described sweetFrog's frozen yogurt as fluffy and creamy with the consistency of soft serve ice cream. And for those who are lactose intolerant, the business offers sorbet. "Get a taste to knock the edge off the sweet tooth. But you also know you are getting a healthier product," he said. For example, Mike Garrison, sweetFrog regional director, said he is working with Children's Hospital to set up a time for 20 percent of proceeds to go toward purchasing hearing aids. "We're really, really focused on giving back to the community," he said. Having opened his Brookfield location at the end of September, Henderson said his business has been well received. He encourages people to come to sweetFrog despite the chillier temperatures because it's a great place to gather. He said the Brookfield location has WiFi and a fireplace, so it can be a place to relax and it's a larger space so meetings can be held there as well. "I want to be accessible for the people of Wisconsin because they have been generous and supportive of me during my time in Wisconsin," he said. Henderson hopes to open up several more locations by the summer and continue growing his business while giving back. Guest Appreciation Sale!
