The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, October 30, 2019 A-3 LOCAL Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg Hello, My name is Scott Jenkins and I am seeking election for Petersburg City Council Precinct #3. is seat is currently held by my father, Bert Jenkins. He has served the city for the last 20 plus years in this position, and will not be seeking re-election. I, myself, am like the rest of the residents in this city. On a daily basis, we all travel the same city streets, use the same city services, and we all want the best for our city. I will be a voice for all of the residents and help make Petersburg a better place to live for our families. Working together and using a little common sense, we can accomplish many things. If elected, I will work with other city officials to make the best decisions for our community. I would appreciate your vote on November 5 and look forward to the opportunity to improve our city. Petersburg Council Precinct #3 Two arrested after traffic stop By James Capozella A late night Monday, October 21 traffic stop resulted in several drug and driving charges for driver Michael Oakland, 46, of 2766 E. State Road 64, Winslow, and Ashley Mallory, 38, of 1711 E. Logtown Rd., Winslow. Petersburg officer Bryce Manning reports he was on routine pa- trol on Main Street, Petersburg when an SUV passed him with the driver's side headlight out. Manning said in his report that he stopped the vehicle at Sixth and Poplar and could smell a strong odor of mari- juana. The driver, Michael Oakman, and passenger Ashley Mallory had valid driv- ers' licenses and allowed a search, which located marijuana on Oakman and in the vehicle, along with two glass smoking pipes. Oakman admitted to having a mar- ijuana grinder and scale inside his pock- et, which was found by officer Manning. Trooper C.J. Boeckman and Sheriff's Deputy Paul Collier arrived and Boeck- man administered field sobriety testing, which Oakman failed. In the sally port at the Pike County Jail, a gun was found in Oakman's boot. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine under five grams, operating a vehicle while in- toxicated with a prior and dealing in mar- ijuana. Mallory was charged with posses- sion of methamphetamine and posses- sion of paraphernalia. Brief storm Saturday causes damage A large part of this tree fell on a house in Petersburg and knocked over their television antenna. A strong storm moved through Pike County at about 6 p.m. Saturday. It downed several limbs, but Sheriff Kent Johnson said the big- gest complaint the Sheriff's Department received was about cable TV being out.
