These meetings will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the USDA Ser vice Center conference room in Petersburg, Ind. The meetings operate under an open door policy. Meetings are subject to unexpected can- cellation the day of a scheduled meeting if a quorum cannot be met. On Tuesday, Januar y 24th, 2020, the SWCD will host their 73rd Annual Din- ner and Meeting at the Gospel Center Gym located in Petersburg, Indiana. This is event is FREE to attend if reser vations are made by 4pm on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020. After 4 p.m. Friday and leading up to the night of the event, a $10 ser vice fee will be charged. Dinner will be catered by The Millhouse restaurant. For the 73rd Annual Dinner and Meeting, the SWCD is excited to book Hollywood comedian, Craig Tornquist. Tornquist has performed more than 3,000 clean stand-up comedy shows for corporate, church, festival, and school audiences from Los Angeles to New York. He has warmed-up concert crowds for Jay Leno, Sinbad, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (the original Jersey Boys), Marty Stuart, Lee Green- wood, The Spinners and many more. Best-known for his hilarious audience participation routines, quick wit and dead-on celebrity impressions, Craig has spent more than 30 years proving Victor Borges' tenet that, "Laughter is the shortest distance between two people." Following Tornquist's performance, the evening will move into the business portion for the SWCD. Elections for 2020 will be conducted with one ap- pointed seat and one elected seat on the ballot. Persons interested in ser ving in one of the two positions should contact the SWCD as soon as possible or review the article pertaining to the SWCD elec- tions in this newsletter. Pike County SWCD seeks candidate for supervisor position The Pike County Soil and Water Con- ser vation District (SWCD) is looking for persons with an interest in natural resourc- es management who would like to ser ve as a district official. Candidates are being sought for one elected seat and one ap- pointed seat to ser ve on the district's five‐ member board of super visors. The term for this seat runs from Februar y 2020 through Februar y 2023. Pike County SWCD is a legal subdivision of state government re- sponsible for the protection, conser vation and wise use of the soil, water and related natural resources within the county. Work- ing cooperatively with federal, state and lo- cal agencies and organizations, the district brings educational, technical and financial assistance to bear on the conser vation problems of the county. Activities of the district are directed by the five super visors, three who are elected by the local land users and two appointed by the State Soil Conser vation Board. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month but could be rescheduled if necessar y to have a minimum number for a quorum. During the meetings, super visors plan and oversee the efforts aimed at fulfilling the district's responsibilities, which include: •Assessing natural resources manage- ment needs within the county •Developing and implementing policies and programs that address those assessed needs •Carr ying out program initiatives given to SWCDs by state and federal government and advise local government on natural resource management issues. As compensation for their ser vice, super visors can receive salar y per diem when engaged in district business. Candi- dates for Pike County SWCD's elected and appointed super visor positions must be of voting age and reside in the county.
