A-4 Local Wednesday, August 28, 2019 The Press-Dispatch City of Petersburg: Notice of Availability of an Environmental Assessment and Preliminary Public Notice Summary: Notice is hereby given that USDA, Rural Development (RD), as required by the National Environmental Policy Act, is issuing an Environmental Assessment (EA) in connection with the possible impacts related to a project proposed by the City of Petersburg, IN. e proposal is for renovations and expansion of the capacity to the existing Petersburg wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). e work will cover various improvements to the existing structure, new sludge drying beds, new 2M gal. equalization lagoon and a solar field. e existing WWTP is not located in the floodplain but portions of the improvements will be located within the 100-year floodplain of the Pride Creek. e City of Petersburg has applied to USDA, RD for funding. e other purpose of this notice is to inform the public of the proposed construction that will take place in the floodplain and the conversion of approximately 6 acres of farmland. e construction will occur on a site owned by the City and that is adjacent to its existing waste water treatment plant. Approximately 4 acres of floodplain will be converted as will 6 acres of prime farmland aer the project and up to 3 acres maybe temporarily disturbed during construction. e City will obtain any and all necessary permits and comply with all applicable laws, permits, mitigating measures outlined by the various agencies contacted or involved. RD has evaluated the EA and believes that it accurately assesses the impacts of the proposed project. No significant impacts are expected as a result of the construction of the project. Questions and comments may be sent to the RD office listed below. RD will accept questions and comments of the environmental assessment for 14 days from the date of the publication of this notice. Any final action by RUS related to the proposed project will be subject to, and contingent upon, compliance with all relevant Federal environmental laws and regulations and completion of environmental review procedures as prescribed by 7 CFR Part 1970, Environmental Policies and Procedures.
