C-2 Church Wednesday, August 28, 2019 The Press-Dispatch Continued from page 1 Baptist Continued on page 3 Continued in next column Continued in next column "A warm kitten can melt an ice cold heart." This week, PAWS is fea- turing a curious little kit- ten named Busy Body, who has to be in the mid- dle of any activity going on at PAWS. She especial- ly likes to supervise the washing of the dog and cat bowls and often even dips her paw in the water to of- fer assistance. Busy Body loves human attention and companion- ship, and could easily be- come a lap kitty. She has short, smooth fur, is gray and white with aqua-col- ored eyes, is approximate- ly 10 weeks old and will likely be a petite gal. To adopt this fun-loving feline, call 812-354-9894. PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the BUSY BODY Kids Club Kick-Off September 11 6-7:30pm • Blow-ups • Food • Cake Walk • Games petersburg First Baptist Church 200 N. 8th St., Petersburg, IN 812-582-8268 County-wide Transportation Provided prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. September 8 will be our Homecoming celebration with Ralph Clark bring- ing the message. Singing, featuring the "Homeland" singers, will start following the carry-in dinner at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and spend the day with us. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is one of judg- ment on sin and evil, but it is also a story of God rescu- ing a family because He is gracious and faithful even when we deserve punish- ment more than love and mercy. God certainly still judges sin, and we should not ignore sin either. But we must often ask ourselves in life's situations, should we be vengeful and judgmen- tal, or should we instead be more gracious and faithful like our heavenly Father? "And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remem- bered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he over- threw the cities in which Lot dwelt" (Genesis 19:29). I hope that you have marked it on your calendar because it promises to be another huge event. We have been receiving many great items such as tables, chairs, fur- niture, clothing and much more. Remember all items are donation only, which al- lows Crossroads Communi- ty Partners to provide the annual Thanksgiving meal, as well as purchasing toys for Christmas. We do all of this because we love to share Jesus with you. Fur- ther, we do it because Cross- roads wants to give back to our communities. As I say each week, Cross- roads loves our communi- ties in both Gibson and Pike counties and the surround- ing area. If you do not have a church home, we would love for you to visit us. Also, we encourage you to visit our website at www.crossroad- soc.org to get more informa- tion about upcoming events. Like us on Facebook and see some pictures from various events. Life gets messy, it gets hard, and when curve- balls come our way it is easy to give up. But don't give up. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fix- ing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith." Samuel Kinnaman, Pastor Doris Catt, Reporter seek the glory that is from the one and only God" ( John 5:44)? Jesus asked this question, and still asks it today. He un- derstands that popular opin- ion disapproves of those who apply God's true standards. A fter all, He suffered and died on a cross. Seeking God's glory should be all that matters. To obtain approval from the Father, a relationship with the Son is required. God treats the friends of His Son like His own children. That same love is mirrored in us when we, as obedient chil- dren, share God's love with others. A choice is offered to be- gin the difficult journey to- wards our true home, trying to help others find the same path by our words, actions and lifestyle, knowing that suffering may be part of the trip before we obtain an eter- nity with our Father, broth- ers and sisters. You must make the choice before it's too late. Time is deceptive and tends to run out on those who think they have plenty of it. Our lack of choosing may bring pop- ularity and ease for a short time on earth, but ends with the judgment of pain, agony and darkness for the eterni- ty that follows. Don't let pop- ular opinion sway you, for it changes all too quickly and it lies to the benefit of no one. Denny Wiscaver, Pastor Kimberly Flynn, Reporter Independent "Let your speech be al- ways with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer ev- ery man" (Colossians 4:6). Paul had to encounter the imposing city of Athens all by himself. And accord- ing to Acts 17:16, he reacted strongly to the sight of a city full of idols. Yet here we have a tender opportunity to see the sincerity of Paul's heart, for he reasoned in the syn- agogue with the Jews and with those who worshiped God, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there. He had no emotional or spiritu- al support and probably lit- tle physical support. No one would have known if he had simply been too intimidat- ed to preach. No one would have blamed him anyway. Yet day by day he tried to reason with any Athenian who would listen because he was so concerned that they needed Jesus. What keeps you distracted and unaware of openings for spiritual con- versation with others? Let us, like Paul, seize our op- portunities and not be timid about the great commission. Chad Searls, Pastor
