Kingsmen men's group will meet on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. All men are wel- come. Covenant—A binding agreement made by two or more persons or parties. A contract. A covenant or contract in today's society doesn't really hold much weight. We, as a people, change our minds or our cir- cumstances change and we want to amend or break the terms of the contract. God established covenant with people first through Ad- am (Hosea 6:7). Adam broke covenant with God by eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Because of that broken covenant, we lost our intimate relation- ship with God. God would come and walk and talk with Adam and Eve daily. There was intimacy in that relationship. There was also love and acceptance, words of encouragement for Adam and Eve, words of praise and honor to God. It was a beau- tiful relationship that was broken. God's plan for us has al- ways been about relation- ship. He made an unbreak- able covenant. It was estab- lished through Abraham, but God made the covenant with Himself (Hebrews 6:13- 18). Abraham's and our re- sponsibility to take part in this covenant was and is to believe. (Romans 10 :9, 10) A fter that, we become a new creation (II Corin- thians 5:17). Through this new covenant we are once again granted access to an intimate relationship with our Creator. Check the website for lo- cation and time for upcom- ing events, www.livingfc. org. Hope Barnett, Reporter SPURGEON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 11505 N. Hwy. 61 Spurgeon Pastor Cell 812-202- 8903 or church office 812-922-8215 Church service 9 a.m.; Sunday school 10 a.m.; Thursday Bible study at 1 p.m. Today's reading: II Samu- el 12:26 -31. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and puri- fy us from all unrighteous- ness" (I John 1:9). When we permit our past to crush us, in effect we're telling God His grace isn't enough. Regardless of what we've done, our Father ex- tends His complete forgive- ness to us. We can find, as David did, grace enough to get back in the battle. What regrets gnaw at your soul? Who in your life might be a safe person to talk to for the reassurance of God's grace? Our sins don't define us: God's love does. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. SR 56 Bowman 812-582-8896 Sunday morning worship 9 a.m.; Sunday school 10 :15 a.m. We are exploring the words in Philippians 4:4-9 and how they can help us thrive in cha- os. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the King- dom of God, and His righ- teousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that passes all understanding—He is in con- trol. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 10 a.m. Bible study and 7:30 p.m. Cemetery Association meet- ing. Keith Chanley, Pastor sus Christ; Sunday school, 9:30 a.m. "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become ma- ture, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-13, NIV ). Jeff Pinney, Pastor last Sunday of each month 6 - 7 p.m.; community luncheons the third Tuesday of each month 10 a.m.-noon CDT. The community of Good Shepherd United Method- ist Church exists to glorify God through Jesus Christ our Lord. As a body of believ- ers, we pledge ourselves to al- low the Holy Spirit to develop within us maturity of spirit, unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, so that we may be prepared to share His love, mercy and grace through our words and ac- tions to a needy world. We extend an invitation to the public to come and wor- ship with us. The Good Shepherd takes care of His sheep. Kay Bond, Minister Methodist Peace and joy in the Lord. Mark Schlechty, Pastor Nazarene PETERSBURG CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE 118 West Pike Ave. Church 812-354-8851 Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; morning worship and children's church at 10 :30 a.m.; children's and teen ser- vice at 6 p.m.; evening wor- ship at 6 p.m. and Wednes- day prayer service at 6 p.m. We are grateful that Jesus Christ our Messiah brings justice to the nations. This world seems so overwhelm- ingly sad and in chaos, but as scripture says, "A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out. In faithfulness, He will bring forth justice," (Isaiah 42:3-4a). We cannot see or understand fairness or justice in the mess hap- pening around us, but God is still in control. He will be victorious. Continue to see Him each day. Come visit us, our doors are always open to you. Love made flesh The whole concept of God taking human shape had never made much sense to me. That was because, I re- alized one wonderful day, it was so simple. For peo- ple with bodies, important things like love have to be embodied. That's all. God had to be embodied, or else people with bodies would never in a trillion years un- derstand about love. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. "He's busy, honey, and can't come right now," his mother replied. "But I really, really want to see him," the boy persisted. "Sorry, but he's tied up right now and can't be disturbed." "Well then," the boy said, "tell him I'm sick and want my pastor to visit me." The Prayer of Faith "Is anyone among you suf- fering? Let him pray. Is any- one cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the el- ders of the church, and let them pray over him, anoint- ing him with oil in the name of the Lord" ( James 5:13-14 ESV ). We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter
