Petersburg Farmers Market every Saturday morning until Sept. 28 on 8th St., next to the Courthouse in Pe- tersburg. There were no postcards in the mail- box. Winslow Patoka River should have risen an inch, which is low already. The rain we had Saturday, August 17 lasted only 15 minutes. Sunday there wasn't hardly any sprinkles. Rain on Tuesday, August 20 didn't last that long, but on Wednesday, there were storms from Wayne County, Ill., that brought thun- der and lightning strikes right after another, with some rain that fell in a short time. All these storms brought the strong winds, which left lots of limbs to be picked up or in some ar- eas, trees fell and large limbs had to be cut up. What I call Grandma's tree had a large limb fall and had rested on one side of the shed that Norm had to cut up. One limb fell and stuck in the yard about an inch or more. My sister, Terri Ann, had fog one morning and it was clear in Winslow. The temps have been in the 90s, but the heat index was 101-105, the tropical range. The mug- gy range isn't that much nicer, so if you were inside, you were comfortable, at least with the A/C on. Norm and I have heard a leak near the restroom coming from where the water heater is sitting, so we looked but couldn't find where the leak was. However, after more days passed, the leak be- came louder. So, Norm was off work on that Friday and we both looked. This time, we saw the water spraying from a pipe. So, the work be- gan to fix this problem and get the hot water pipe back on. With the help from friends, Norm got all the parts we needed and in a few hours, the water leak was fixed. All is okay again and thanks to our friends. It's nice to have Terri Ann here and she finally got to go through some pic- tures for the reunions and families. I guess it was so enjoyable that both of them had to take a nap. Winslow would like to welcome Alexis Rusch, who bought Katy Oxa- dine's house, so help her feel welcome in our friendly town. August 24 was the tri-engine planes to see at Mid-American airport in Law- renceville, Ill., and I'll try to tell you all our experience next week. The Winslow Community Festival is September 21, where loads of fun will happen in the old-fashioned set- ting of friendly stars who always have the time of their lives in the small town. When the night comes the Light-Up Parade begins and more faces light up with joy as they see all the items lit up in different ways. You all are invited to join in our fun that lasts a lifetime. Labor Day celebration this year is in Princeton and if you are one of those who really celebrates on that day, re- member to don't drink and drive. Stay safe on this end of summer, so they say, and enjoy the day with family and friends. As the lights dim this week, keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and enjoy your area, and stop for school buses. Then, always smile, wave and say hi to everyone you see this week.
