CARLISLE Ruth E. Carlisle, 81, of the Pikeville Community, passed away at 10 :14 a.m., Monday, May 27, 2019, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. She was born January 9, 1938, at home near Stendal, to Chester and Edna ( Weit- kamp) Brockriede. She graduated from Hol- land High School in 1956, and married James R. "Jim" Carlisle on April 26, 1958, at Zoar. She farmed and was ac- tively involved in the family farming operation until just recently. She was a clerk at the Pike County Recorder's Office for 23 years, and was Lockhart Township Trust- ee for 16 years. She was known for her strong work ethic; and her dedication and generosity to her fam- ily, church and community. She was a lifetime member of Zoar United Methodist Church, a 50 + year member of the Winslow Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #391, served as Eastern Star Dis- trict Deputy in 2001, and was former Grand Repre- sentative of the Utah Grand Chapter in Indiana. She enjoyed garden- ing, canning, sewing, mak- ing lap robes and traveling with her family throughout the United States. She was known for her cooking - es- pecially her German pota- to salad, which she made during the Zoar Mosquito Fest and was always willing to share her recipes. She is survived by two sons, Max (Cheryl) Carl- isle, of Pikeville, and Rex (Paula) Carlisle, of Sten- dal; one daughter, Beth ( Ja- son) Goeppner, of Pikev- ille; seven grandchildren, Jacob Carlisle, Taylor Car- lisle, Brandon Goeppner, Corey Goeppner, Parker Goeppner, Hannah McCar- ter and Levi McCarter; and one great-grandchild, Tobi- as Carlisle. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. "Jim" Carlisle, who passed away on July 24, 2013. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. EDT on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Zoar United Methodist Church in Zoar, with Pastor Keith Chanley, Pastor Jeff Crowe and Pas- tor Terry Russell officiat- ing. Burial followed in Cup Creek Cemetery near the Pikeville Community. K ATHRYN "JUDY" CHAMBERLAIN Kathryn "Judy" (Sims) Chamberlain, 80, of Peters- burg, passed away unexpect- edly at Deaconess Gateway Hospital on Friday, May 31, 2019. She was born November 20, 1938, at home in Peters- burg, to George Orace and Emma Lea (Songer) Sims. She graduated from Pe- tersburg High School in 1956 and married the love of her life, Richard Chamber- lain, on September 8, 1956. Judy, or Gran, as her fam- ily affectionately called her, never failed to leave every- one she met with a smile. She never met a stranger. Her loud laugh and chatter will be missed by many. She was a lifelong mem- ber of Brenton Chapel Church of Christ. She en- joyed singing to the resi- dents at the local nursing homes with the other mem- bers of Brenton Chapel. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Xi Zeta Omega. She enjoyed gathering with the other Petersburg HS Alumni. She loved to trav- el and did so her whole life. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-love, Rick and Lorice Chamber- lain; grandchildren, Chel- sa (Ryan) Knepp, Joe (Tan- isha) Chamberlain, and bo- nus granddaughter, Brooke (Dustin) Potts; great-grand- children, Brycen, Daegan, Corbin and Avelyn Grace Knepp, and Hudson Cham- berlain; and many other lov- ing family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; brother, Jim Sims; son, Stephen; and great-grand- son, Andon Knepp. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019, at Brenton Chap- el Church of Christ. DONALD LEE BOGAN Donald Lee Bogan 82, of Oakland City, entered rest on Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Linda White Hospice House. He was born on Jan. 18, 1937, in Evansville, to Wilbur and Hallie Bogan. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was a member of St. John's Church in Buckskin. He was a farmer and he truly loved be- ing a school bus driver also. He also worked in a bank and nursing home, and had served on the board at Wirth Hospi- tal. He loved growing corn in his garden, washing cars and spending his younger years riding motorcycles. But his great passion was taking care of his wife, Pearl. He is survived by wife, Pearl Bogan; son Jerry (Le- nora) Bogan, of Oakland City; daughter, Susan Gharst, of Princeton; sister, Joyce Ann Turpen, of Indianapolis; a brother, Gerald Bogan, of Lynnville; eight grandchil- dren; and nine great-grand- children. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Robert, William and Richard Bogan. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at the Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel, with Kristi Pflug of- ficiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. GILBERT LEE MILLER Gilbert Lee Miller, 78, of Oakland City, entered rest on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City. He was born on Feb. 28, 1941, in Warrick County, to Harry and Margaret (Gise) Miller. He served in the United States Army during Viet- nam and was a member of Oakland City American Legion Post #256. He had worked Zenith, Whirlpool Corporation and Vigo Coal. He is survived by daugh- ter, Christina Caskey, of Oakland City; one grand- daughter; and a sister, Su- san Menke, of Evansville. He was born on Dec. 16, 1938, in Glezen, to Denver and Laura (Henson) Bolin. He served in the United States Army during Viet- nam and was member of Winslow American Legion Post #115. He had worked at Kerr's Marine Tool Com- pany in Winter Garden, Fla. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Ann Bennett, of Winslow; sons Anthony Wright, of Evansville, Den- ver Bolin, of Madison, Fla., and Aaron and Gerald Bolin, both of Winslow; 11 grand- children, 15 great-grandchil- dren; a great-great grand- child; brothers Jack Bolin of Palmetto, Texas, Bob Bolin, of Washington, and John Bolin, Ray Bolin and Terry Bolin, all of Winslow; and a sister, Nina McCand- less, of Winslow. She was born May 26, 1967, in Gibson County. She was a loving, caring, free-spirited soul who en- joyed making others laugh around her. The most im- portant things to her in life were family, friends, and her love for animals and fishing. He was born on January 21, 1948, to Gerald and Mil- dred Burke. On July 13, 1969, he mar- ried his high school sweet- heart, Ruth Lynn Wilson. He was a farmer and steward of the land. He was in partnership with his mother and father for many years, and eventu- ally formed what is today Burke Construction and Farm Services with his wife and daughters. He served as a board member for the South Knox School Corporation from 1984- 1996. He was also a mem- ber of the Indiana Presby- terian Church, as well as a member of the Kessinger Ditch Drainage Board. He had a passion for farming and conserving the land. He always took time to educate people on producing crops and how to conserve the land. He enjoyed watching tug boats and barges, swimming and water skiing with his fami- ly at Kentucky Lake. He al- ways encouraged his fami- ly and others to be the best they could be. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Lynn Burke; his daughters, Marcie (Rich- ard) Mayall, of Monroe City, and Kallie (Brandt) Schuckman, of Washing- ton; and his grandchildren, Kendall Mayall, Burke Mayall, Ashlynn Mayall, Kyra Schuckman and Coo- per Schuckman. He was preceded in death by his sister, Penny Burke Schuckman; and his parents. She was born in northern Indiana on December 11, 1952, to Dr. William F. and Mary Kay Henning. She attended Auburn High School and graduat- ed from the consolidated DeKalb High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the Uni- versity of Evansville, where she was a member of Ze- ta Tau Alpha sorority. Her Masters in Education was earned from Indiana State University. She began her career at the Evansville Mu- seum, where she became the Planetarium Coordina- tor. It was during this time that she met and married Joe Dedman. The young couple moved to St. Louis for a year, then back to Southern Indi- ana to be near Joe's family and hometown of Winslow. She taught in all three Pike County elementary schools. She began at Otwell teaching art, then moved to third grade at Winslow for one year. She then moved to Petersburg Elementary, where she spent the bulk of her 39 -year teaching career and taught fifth grade, and later third grade. She was awarded the Pike County Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2017.She served on the boards of Somebody's Place and the Learn and Grow Childcare Ministry. She is survived by her husband, Joe; her sons, John W., of Jasper, and Alex, of Pe- tersburg; her brother, Wil- liam F. Henning II, of Put- nam, Conn.; her sister, Ma- linda Henning, of Angola, Ind.; and her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Smith, of Evans- ville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at First United Meth- odist Church, 801 Walnut St., Petersburg. Burial will follow in Augusta Cemetery near Augusta.
