The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, June 5, 2019 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued from page 2 I got the bag home and my wife and I dumped it out we found a Mexican coin in it which said it was a $20 coin. My junk bag was worth the bid. Pike County clean up day was busy both loads I made. The first day rained and I knew better than to go through the mud. The second day had plenty of mud on the hillside where we all took our loads. I hauled for my son Satur- day and there was so ma- ny trucks and trailers there we had a waiting area and only a few at a time were al- lowed on the hill. All in all I would have to consider their efforts a huge success and I hope there is another clean up next year. I would like to thank them for this project and keep it up. A fter helping my son Saturday the old truck got a much needed bath. It was so dirty we had to use Roy- al purple because I forgot to tell you most of it was winter's coat of dried on grime. Our Sunday school was about God's punishment and how much love He must have for us to punish us enough to keep us in check. The Israelites be- came so full of the world they didn't have enough time or love for God to care about how far away they had strayed. As a mat- ter of fact, they didn't even try to acknowledge the Ho- ly Father. It also held the thought as parents do we lead our children in good paths or do we show them bad examples? The scripture lesson was about prayer and how we talk to our friends and fam- ily, then why can't we just talk with God. Each person has special places where we can just feel God's presence and we seem to pray there with more ease. You should never give up praying for things because we are to be persistent with our pe- titions. It was brought out that church is an excellent place to pray and to never think that church is a place for saints, because it isn't. It is a hospital for ailing spirits to receive help and strength. Well enough rambling for now hope you have a great week and be a bless- ing. Presbyterian LIVING FAITH CHURCH INTERNATIONAL 718 E. Mark Davis, Pastor ye enter into temptation" (Mark 14:30). I got up early one morn- ing and rushed right into the day. I had so much to ac- complish that I didn't have time to pray. Problems just tumbled about me and heavi- er came each task. "Why doesn't God help me? " I won- dered. He answered, "You didn't ask." I wanted joy and beauty, but the day was gray and black. I wondered why God didn't show me, and He said, "You didn't seek." I tried to come into God's presence. I used all my keys at the lock. God gently and lovingly chided, "My child, you didn't knock." I woke up early this morn- ing and paused before enter- ing the day. I had so much to accomplish that I HAD to take time to pray. Sermon Series: "The Bib- lical Principles of Giving." Scripture reading: Mat- thew 13:3-9. Sermon title: "The Four Soils." Theme Statement: The end of the sower going forth is to sow the seed, which is the word of God. The seed is sown in the heart and is secret, gradual and different in fruitfulness. The sowing requires preaching, which requires knowledge, skill, a liberal hand and patience. There are three keys to a one hundred fold increase. 1. Be Carefree. 2. Be Cultivated. 3. Be Conditioned. Leon Pomeroy, Pastor looking lightly at our own sin, let's remember that all of us. "fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). In- stead of condemnation, our Savior showed this woman— and you and me—grace and hope ( John 3:16; 8:10 -11). How can we not do the same for others? Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter Methodist Nazarene PETERSBURG CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE 118 West Pike Ave. Church 812-354-8851 Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; morning worship and children's church at 10 :30 a.m.; children's and teen ser- vice at 6 p.m.; evening wor- ship at 6 p.m. and Wednes- day prayer service at 6 p.m. We ask the Lord to forgive us for the wrongs we com- mit, but do we truly forgive others as Jesus forgives us? When we refuse to forgive those that hurt or wrong us, we are actually refusing to allow God's forgiveness to transform our lives. Many know of teacher An- nie Sullivan helping young Helen Keller break through barriers of blindness and deaf- ness to discover language: how Sullivan placed one of Helen's hands under running water, spelling water in sign language over and over into the other. In Keller's words: "Suddenly, I felt a misty con- sciousness as of something forgotten - a thrill of return- ing thought; and somehow the mystery of language was re- vealed to me. I knew that w- a-t-e-r meant the wonderful cool something that was flow- ing over my hand. That living word awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy, set it free." God's living Word, work- ing through the waters of bap- tism, also awakens us - to the life of faith anchored in God's unconditional love. Baptism revives in us a "misty con- sciousness" that we are safe in God and reveals "the mystery of language" that is prayer. In baptism, as water washes over our bodies, the living Word gives us light, hope, joy and true freedom. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday.
