PETERSBURG ELEMENTARY FIELD DAY Duo arrested on battery, drug charges Sunday By Andy Heuring A 21-year-old woman was arrested after police said she hit her mother in the face, and her husband was arrested on drug charges Sunday. Joy V. Pomeroy, 21, of Pe- tersburg was arrested on charges of battery result- ing in bodily injury, battery without injury to a public safety official and resisting law enforcement. Brian Cassidy was arrest- ed on a preliminary charge of possession of parapher- nalia. Petersburg Patrolman Scott Arnold said he was dispatched at about 9:30 to the Pomeroy residence and was met by Leon Pomeroy, who escorted him into the house where he saw Barba- ra Pomeroy lying in the floor crying in pain. Her daugh- ter, Joy, was there as well. According to Patrolman Arnold's report, both said Joy had hit her mother in the face. Arnold said Barba- ra had a swollen eye that was starting to bruise . He said as he and Pike County Deputy Jared Sim- mons attempted to place Joy into his police car, she be- gan screaming and threat- ening Deputy Simmons. She kicked him in the chest as they were putting her in the car. Her husband, Brian, then started intervening, saying Joy should not be arrested. Patrolman Arnold said while talking to Cassidy, he noted slurred speech. Po- lice said Cassidy went down- stairs with them and gave them a box of drug para- phernalia.
