C-2 Church Wednesday, May 22, 2019 The Press-Dispatch Continued from page 1 "Dogs teach us how to love with an open heart, and how to live in Joy"— Author unknown. This week, PAWS is fea- turing an active young gal named Deena, who is a very attractive Stafford- shire Terrier with a dynam- ic personality. She is very agile and fit, and needs a high energy family that can give her lots of exer- cise. Deena has short, soft fur that is light chocolate with white accents, attractive green eyes that melt one's heart when she begs to be walked or played with. She loves to cuddle and at times thinks she is a lap dog. She is approximate- ly two years old and can be adopted by calling 812- 354-9894. The transformative pow- er of grace will be one of the divine wonders that we will celebrate forever when eternity is our final home. Moses wasn't a natural born leader. He begged God to send someone else to Egypt, yet by transform- ing grace, there was no prophet in all of Israel like him. Joshua was scared to death of what God was call- ing him to do, but by divine power, he led the Israelites into the Promised land. The list goes on and on. The Bible does not cel- ebrate the steely spirit of a bunch of heroic charac- ters. No, the Bible puts be- fore us people who were just like you and me. They were weak and fearful, but God saw much more. What made the differ- ence? You can answer the question with one word: grace. Grace transformed their hearts, giving them the desire, power and wis- dom to do what they would not have been able to do on their own. When God calls you, he goes with you, sup- plying what you need for the task at hand. Be in prayer for those who are in need and as we celebrate Memorial Day this week, take the time to remember those who gave their lives fighting for our freedom, our country and our leaders. We pray our country will turn back to God and the principles on which it was founded. We invite you to worship with us at any of our ser- vices. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service and the Lord's Sup- per at 10 :30 a.m. John 13 Yesterday during our ser- mon time, we reflected on the moment in Jesus' minis- try where the savior of the world takes on the form of a servant, in the lowest form, and washed the dirty feet of his disciples. It is such a spe- cial moment in the ministry of Jesus and the narrative of John's Gospel. The reason, there is a veil that covers the surface of the narrative as we see Jesus travel the ancient world of Israel and the Greco-Roman empire, we see what Jesus is doing (teaching, miracle, signs, etc.), but John also seems to keep the true meaning from VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Morning worship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m.; Bible school at 10 :30 a.m.; There will be no evening worship this week. You are welcome to attend these ser- vices. Memorial Day It's fitting to have a Memo- rial Day celebration where we remember and honor those who have sacrificed for our country, many mak- ing the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and America. The Psalmist said, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12). There are some in our country who want to re- move one nation under God from our pledge and in God we trust from our money. In- stead, according to Psalm 33:12, they should encour- age worship of the true and living God. Because He lives. John Manges, Minister us building up to the end. At John 13 though, Jesus is sharing the last meal with his closest followers, the twelve, and he chooses to give them another sign, and he does so by washing their feet. But the most significant part in the scene is the chal- lenge that comes after the act. Jesus challenges his fol- lowers to do the same. He tells his disciples to do just as he had done, to wash feet. However, if we just believe Jesus is telling us to literal- ly wash feet, we narrow the view of this moment. Jesus is not just after us to wash feet but instead, he is beckoning us to love our neighbor and be a servant of all no matter who they are and no matter how dirty the work. And Je- sus leaves his disciples with these words in verse 17; "Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." Let us follow Jesus' example by serving and loving our neighbors. Everyone welcome. DJ Bryant, Pastor Church of Christ BRENTON CHAPEL CHURCH OF CHRIST 1194 E. CR 400 N. Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." (Isaiah 43:18 -19, NIV ). This scripture is one that reminds us that we should not dwell on the past, be- cause God is making for us a new and brighter future. Even as Christians, forget- ting the past, or not looking back and reflecting on the bad things that have hap- pened in our lives that God has brought us through, is so hard to do. Everyday though, we need to try and keep our eyes on God and forward on the future that God has planned for us. Claim it, receive it and thank God for it everyday. God bless you and keep you. The amplified version of Genesis says several times that "God saw that this was good (pleasing and useful) and He affirmed and sus- tained it." It is encouraging to know that no matter my circum- stance, God keeps me go- ing and sent Jesus to affirm in me that I am pleasing and useful for His purpose. He can do this for you as well. Be encouraged today knowing that God loves you enough to affirm and sustain you as His creation and His child no matter what you are experiencing.
