Pike Central would get no closer than 18 points the rest of the contest. Scott led the Chargers with 13 points while grab- bing a team-high six re- bounds, while Leathco tossed in 11 points. Huff netted six points while Krieg had five points. Se- nior Christian Benson, ju- nior Ethan Gorby and se- nior Austin Holder added four points each. Benson and Gorby both grabbed five rebounds while Gorby and senior Hayden Kabrick dished out two as- sists apiece. For the game, Pike Cen- tral made 21 of 49 field goal attempts – a 42.9 percent av- erage – and hit three of four tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 21 times. Donoho also reached double figures in scoring for South Spencer with 10 points. Smith had a game- high five steals while senior Sam Cummings dished out a game-high four assists. For the game, the Rebels made 26 of 47 field goal at- tempts – a 55.3 percent av- erage – and hit seven of 14 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over nine times. South Spencer made eight of 14 tries from beyond the three-point line, including six by Bartlett in nine at- tempts. In the junior varsity con- test, sophomore Houston Ling scored a game-high eight points to lead South Spencer to a 47-30 victory over Pike Central. Junior Colin Craig paced the Char- gers with seven points while Krieg added six points. Sophomore Jaden Guth and freshman Alex Clark tossed in five points each. SPORTS BRIEFS Pike Central Youth Wrestling Camp to be held March 11-15 Wrestlers who are inter- ested in improving their skills and knowledge of the sport are invited to participate in the Pike Central Youth Wrestling Camp. The wrestling camp is for students who will be in kindergarten or first through sixth grades in the 2019-20 school year. The camp will run from Monday, March 11, to Friday, March 15, from 6 p.m.-7:10 p.m., at the Pike Central High School gym. The wrestling finale will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 6 p.m. The sign-up fee is $45 ($25 for any additional siblings) and includes a T-shirt, if registered by March 1. Registrations will be accepted until the first night of the camp. O'Neill, a 6 -foot-8 junior center, and senior guard Gabe Gladish – who add- ed 16 points – netted nine points each during the first quarter as Barr-Reeve jumped out to a 25 -9 lead. Pike Central fell behind 16 -2 midway through the opening period before se- nior Christian Benson scored five straight points to cut the Vikings' lead to 16 -7. However, following an exchange of baskets – one by O'Neill for Barr-Reeve and one by senior Hayden Kabrick for Pike Central – the Vikings outscored the Chargers 38 -1 to take a com- manding 46 -10 lead with just under one minute left in the second quarter. A three-pointer by Ben- son at the end of the first half and a three-pointer by senior Judah Leathco at the start of the second half pulled Pike Central to within 30 points – at 46 -16 – before a 11-0 scoring run by the Vi- kings widened the deficit to 57-16 with 3:49 remaining in the third period. A fter a three-pointer by sophomore Stephen Krieg reduced Barr-Reeve's lead to 57-18, an 8 -0 scoring run by the Vikings extended their lead to 65 -19 going into the final period. The Chargers could get no closer than 40 points – at 67-27 following a three-point play by senior Austin Hold- er with 5:21 left – the rest of the contest. Benson netted a team- high 12 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead Pike Central, which slipped to 2- 12 with its fourth consecu- tive loss. Junior Ethan Scott added five points while Holder, Krieg and Leathco tossed in three points each. Kabrick and sophomore Se- an Hanselman rounded out the scoring for the Chargers with two points apiece. For the game, Pike Cen- tral made nine of 45 field goal attempts – a 20 per- cent average – and hit sev- en of nine tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 16 times. Sophomore Brycen Gra- ber tossed in 12 points while leading both teams in assists (4) and steals (5) as Barr- Reeve, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, improved to 15 -2 with its sixth straight victory. For the game, the Vikings made 29 of 50 field goal at- tempts – a 58 percent aver- age – and hit 10 of 14 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over seven times. In the junior varsity con- test, freshman Hagen Knepp scored 13 points and junior Jacob Wagler added 10 points to lead Barr-Reeve to a 66 -27 victory over Pike Central. Hanselman and ju- nior Colin Craig netted sev- en points and six points, re- spectively, to pace the Char- gers. Pike Central will host North Posey on Thursday, Jan. 31, with the junior var- sity game slated to tip-off at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 2, the Chargers will host Washington, with the junior varsity contest scheduled to tip off at 1:30 p.m. Pike Central will host Te- cumseh on Tuesday, Feb. 5, with the junior varsity con- test starting at 6:30 p.m. The crowning of the Win- ter Homecoming Queen and Princess – which orig- inally was scheduled to be held on Saturday, Jan. 19, but was postponed due to inclement weather – will be held prior to the start of the JV game, while Senior Night will be held before the varsi- ty game.
