CSF came up with this theme through lots of brainstorming and voting. "Im hoping that everyone will pull their weight and the dance will be a success" says CSF member Alex Dahnke. Every year CSF devotes long periods of time to make Formal the best it can be. They decorate, plan, and coordinate. Winter Formal will be held in The Red Bluff Community Center from 9-12 p.m. High school is meant to prepare students for college and their future, one of the ways Red Bluff high achieves this is through its ROP programs. ROP stands for Regional Occupational Program and these programs are geared towards giving students the job skills required in certain jobs fields. The classes use the equipment and techniques that are used in the real world jobs that those students hope to pursue. "ROP classes are the practical application of knowledge," said Mr. Jones, department head of Business. The high school has over 20 ROP programs ranging from Firefighting to Theater production. These classes don't only meet the needs of their career fields but also meet all the educational standards set forth by California. All the ROP classes at Red Bluff High are aligned to California standards for over 15 years. All of the ROP programs are also classified as Career Technical Education (CTE) by the state. The state has classified these classes as CTE because they meet a higher level of academic requirements than other occupational classes. Red Bluff High has had ROP programs in its class options since 1985 when superintendents, who had helped with writing ROP legislation, moved to the district. This month is Career Technical Education month which is meant to honor CTE classes in the state. Red Bluff has used and continues to use these classes to prepare students for the career they seek. ROP programs First Feeder Leader program Egan Meagher Sports Editor February 1, 2013 Devan Schoelen(10) "Starwars because itʼs out of this world like Law and Order." is success for the AG class Julia Liebert Staff Writer The first ever Feeder Leader program is becoming a success. For people who don't know about this program, it is basically feeding, raising goats for meat and is also a fun, but responsible project. These meat goats are the first ever to be at this school as well as the Feeder Leader program. The program, started by Mrs. Stroud and Mr. Pritchard, has given an opportunity for kids to learn about the proper ways to take care of animals for future auctions or anything that they want to do with the experience provided. The kids involved are; Paige Smith, Shaye Root, Julia Liebert, Hailie Willey, Travis Ferreira. They got the goats on November 14, 2012. "The best thing about this " The best thing about this program is working with the animals..." -Feeder Leader program is working with the animals and having a good time," said the FFA Feeder Leaders when they were interviewed. Walking away from this experience makes them want to raise an animal for the fair this coming year and possibly ever year after. If you are not in an Agriculture class then you might want to get in one so you can be in this program, as Smith says "Do it, you get money!" You also get to show people that you can be responsible with the hard work that comes with raising the goats. The Meat Goat Auction will be healed at the Red Bluff High Schools, School Farm on February 13, 2013 at about six o'clock and the goats will probably start at market price or somewhere around there. Being a Feeder Leader is great experience and is also fun! The members would also like to add that "If you are not in an Agriculture class this would be a cool way to come and learn about it, what goes on, and what the students do with all the different programs that are available. Come to the auction and tell anyone you can that might be interested!" Spartan Health Alexis Simpkins Staff Writer People say that what you look like on the outside shouldn't affect your health, but wherever you are, people judge your body and what you look like. Not only does this mess with your mind in general to be constantly thinking about what people are saying, but acting on and making different choices based on others' opinions can mess with your body too. Because of the continuous comments and/or insults between young adults, it causes them to do unhealthy things to their body to fit in. Someone who is picked on and bullied for being "too big" might become anorexic or bulimic. Anorexia is eating very little or no food from fear of gaining weight. Where bulimia is eating a large amount of food in a short time and then quickly trying to dispose of what was just eaten usually by vomiting. Both are extremely unhealthy and could lead to organ damage, easy bruising, dizziness, and fainting due to low blood pressure. Another issue is people being bullied for being "too small". This could pull them into eating a lot more or also using steroids. Young adults in high school use steroids to build muscle mass, but what people don't realize is that steroids could have a serious effect on your body. Steroids could lead to aggressive behavior, while people who use a large amount have also been affected with psychotic syndromes and a high level of anxiety. Some other effects are trouble sleeping, paranoia, depression, and changes in personality. Certain amounts of use could also result in acne, eye damage, hair damage, heart disease, and more. So even though, the health of your body and how you treat it is up to you, there are many things that people should take into consideration before taking drastic measures. Veronica Gomez (11) "A masquerade because it is mysterious." Eddie Torres(12) "Iʼd pick a 49ers theme because theyʼre going to win the Super Bowl." Mrs. Haase (Teacher) "ʻYouʼre my Inspirationʼ because that was my theme for my senior Winter Formal." Mr. Dais (Teacher) "ʻParty like itʼs 3012ʼ because I am a Bieber believer."
