A-4 Wednesday, January 23, 2013 The Press-Dispatch Womens Ministries program starting up in Pike County By Mike Johansen Women needing an extra guiding hand through times of trouble or who just someone to listen to them, have a new program from which to receive help with the start of the Pike County Center for Women's Ministries Program. The program is crisis intervention with a spiritual emphasis and has started up in Pike County to give teenagers and women of all ages a place to seek some help, or just an ear to listen to them. The Pike County Center for Women's Ministries is a program without walls— for now. They are seeking a building or house to locate in at a low cost or no cost to the organization other than what is needed for utilities and essentials. They are a non-profit, para professional counseling center for women and teenage girls. "We are not professional therapists, just women trying to help other women," said Beth Coleman at the Petersburg Kiwanis Club meeting last week. She, along with Kathy Mathias and Amy Barber, gave a presentation to Kiwanis about what they are trying to do in getting this program started in Pike County. They have already un- dergone training about the program and the duties of those trying to help other women. According to the brochure on the organization and the three presenters, some individuals may need the help of persons with more training than the group provides. They are referred by the group or counselors to professional Christian counselors. The women in this organization are individuals who are trying to help oth- er women who have problems. "We rely solely on donations from our community, enabling us to reach out to the wounded and hurting women in need of our services," said Coleman. They are in need of donations to further their program in Pike County. They started the program on the local level because they saw a need for women who were not being served as well as they should be. They have already made a presentation to the Pike County Ministerial Association. They are a non-denominational ministry for women and promote emotional and spiritual healing. Because they do not want to be identified with just one church in Pike County, or elsewhere, they are seeking a base outside a church setting. They would like a house or other building to use as their place to meet with women. "We are praying for an answer and know God will provide us with the place for our counseling services." This is a growing international ministry with centers in Indiana, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, China, Honduras, Nigeria and West Africa. The Center for Women's Ministries was founded in Bloomington in 1989. The Pike County Center hopes to open its door this year. OES service project for Chemo Buddies The O.E.S. students and staff have been collecting donations for Chemo Buddies since December 10. The gym was open each morning from 7:45 -8 for speed stacking with a donation to Chemo Buddies. An average of 20-30 students donated and stacked each morning. Jill Kincaid and her daughter came to O.E.S. to watch the stacking and collect the donations. The picture above shows a baby sucking its thumb while still in the mother's womb. In the first month of pregnancy the baby's heart will start to beat, in week 6 brain waves can be detected and the child's mouth and lips are present and fingers are forming. Does this Child look like a Baby to you? During the first two months is when most abortions are performed. It was loaned and never returned, and I can't remember who borrowed it. It was picked up from the office at 602 Main, Petersburg. •The initials CSS are stitched in the collar and it has a pin that says 'Santa's Special Elf ' on it. •It was stored in a white zip-up bag, on a hanger, with accessories. This suit means a lot to me. I have been wearing it for 30+ years and would very much like to have it back. If you remember who borrowed it, or have seen it, you can contact me at 354-6169 or 354-8893. If you want to return it anonymously, you may leave it at The Press-Dispatch office during business hours. -Carol Sue Sutton, Petersburg We join our nation in mourning the deaths of over 50 million innocent lives lost to abortion. We acknowledge the pain and anguish suffered by the many mothers and fathers who now regret that fateful decision. We pray for their healing. We only wish that mothers coming into abortion chambers could see the "window into the womb" (Above) so they could see what they are carrying. If they could see, we believe they would choose life not abortion. Please join with us in this battle to save the lives of the unborn. Support the efforts of the Right to Life Organization in this important mission. Ad Paid for by Daviess County Right To Life, P.O.
