Arts and Entertainment Page 4 January 18, 2013. The Wii U is Nintendo's best console yet Aleczander Sims Staff Writer The next generation of video games has arrived, or has it? Nintendo busts doors down by being the first company to make an eighth (next) generation video game console, maybe. The Wii U, Nintendo's new release in November, brings all new features to your living room that just might make you say 'wow.' Some people argue that the Wii U is not a 'next' generation console, but instead is an attempt to keep up with the Xbox 360 and PS3. One reason is because other companies aren't planning to make a new console until 2014. The Wii U is Nintendo's first console to have high-definition graphics, having a resolution of up to 1080p. It has 8-32 GB internal memory and you can use an SD card or a hard drive as a memory card for even more space. The console is also backwards compatible with the Wii, meaning that you can play Wii games on your Wii U. You can use all your old Wii controllers on the Wii U too. The Wii U uses two screens to play games, very similar to the DS. The second screen is a touch screen in the middle of the gamepad. In some games, like Batman: Arkham Cite, the touch screen acts as anything from a quick inventory menu to playing the game instantly. The Wii U's main controller is the most interesting part of the console. The main "controller" is actually a gamepad. It has a 6.2-inch pressure touchscreen in the middle of the gamepad. With the screen in your gamepad you can play an entire game without a TV. This feature is what makes the gamepad so popular. The gamepad is much larger than other controllers, but is far more comfortable. The battery gets drained fast and only lasts up to five hours. This is a setback because you have to charge the gamepad every time you're done playing. In some cases where you forget, the battery will drain on its own. Out of the new games launched with the Wii U, Nintendo Land is the only game to use all of the gamepad's features. Nintendo land is like an amusement park made up of bits and pieces of other Nintendo games. In this amusement park is a ton of minigames that range from sailing on balloons to fighting waves of goblins. Each mini-game is fun and work differently to use all the different features of the gamepad. The gamepad also has a front-facing camera, stereo speakers, a microphone, built in motion control and can also be used as a remote for your TV. Being that the Wii U is a new console, it doesn't have very many games out to play. There are going to be plenty of first party games, like Nintendo land and Super Mario. Though what the gamers are concerned about are the third party games like Call of Duty, Need for Speed, and Borderlands. Where are they? Are they coming? Zombie U is another title that came out for the Wii U. This game takes advantage of the Wii U's graphic capacity and puts you in a stunning zombie wasteland. The graphics bring crystal clear startling features to a zombie's face as it slowly limps to you. With the dark, scares, and zombies you can't help but want to play, to survive. The decision of whether or not the Wii U is a 'next' generation console is uncertain. So, get out there and play what could be the best console ever made and see for yourself. tumor begin to show. All of this caused Alex to want to clear up some old issues. So she planned for a hike through the mountains to clear up those issues before "the monster" completely takes over. She left for an adventure knowing that she didn't have much time left. Unfortunately, after a few days on her journey she runs into a young disgruntled girl her dog and her uncle. The girl's name is Ellie. Although these people are kind Alex really just wishes to continue her venture. However, while these people were still visiting something happens that not only paralyzes everyone there, but also affects the animals also, causing the birds to go insane and fall to the ground dead and making the deer leap directly off a cliff. Covered in blood from her mouth and nose Alex struggles to get up. Soon after she discovers that Ellie's uncle had died and while she was sitting there, staring at Ellie's uncle laying in his own pool of blood, she realizes that she is stuck with a little girl and no clue of what just happened or where to go. She sits there smelling the blood from the old man and the urine in the little girl's jeans, wait, she just realized that she could smell again, but if she changed does that mean that other people changed too. She will found that not only people but the entire world has changed, and not for the better. Ashes is a great book with an addicting story line and lovable, hatable, and mediocre characters that the reader will not expect. This book is a great survival book and is a good choice. Especially, if you don't mind sitting on the edge of your seat and staying up a little past your bedtime. The Wii U could be the very best console out there! 'Haunted House' proves to 'Ashes' is an incredibly be a forgettable experience powerful roller coaster Sam Rodriguez Staff Writer We have all heard of the well known film 'Scary Movie', where they attempt to turn horror film plots into more of a comedic story. The movie "A Haunted House" is similar to those movies; they take the plot of the Paranormal Activity movies and spoof it, along with references to other scary movies such as The Exorcist, Sinister, and The Last Exorcism. The idea of the film, was created by the Wayans Brothers, who also are responsible for films like White Chicks and Dance Flick. The film begins with Malcolm (Marlon Wayans also known for his role in White Chicks, Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2) inviting his girlfriend, Kisha (Essence Atkins Deliver Us from Eva) to move in with him. It is pretty clear that he really isn't very confident about his girlfriend moving in with him, because he is anxious about what could possibly happen. As they begin to settle in, Kisha gets suspicions that the house might be haunted. Throughout the film, Malcolm tries to come up with some sort of reasonable explanation for everything that has happened, anything from a glass sliding off the counter to the door opening and closing. As Malcolm refuses to accept the fact that something really might be in the house with him, the spirit makes a great effort to make itself noticed. Just like to farts and other cliche "funny" things that really were not funny at all. The film seemed a bit choppy and poorly put together, and at times I felt a bit lost; as if they did not do a good enough job at making the movie flow together. Also their acting wasn't that good either; at times it seemed as though they were just violently reading lines off a script. Being such a big fan of actual horror films, I am not too much of a fan of comedic movies that make fun of horror films. When I first saw the trailer to this movie I was certain that it was going to be a ridiculously stupid movie, a kind of movie that tried to make jokes and ended up being super annoying. I personally think that comedies do not mix well with horror, but there were plenty of times where this movie took me by surprise and made me laugh. Definitely not the comedy of the year, but overall a not too bad of a movie. "In this movie there were a few scenes where one could clearly tell that their effort to make jokes epically fails." in the Paranormal Activity movies you find out that it is not the house that is haunted but the girlfriend. Desperate to salvage their relationship, Malcolm hires a group of paranormal specialists. Including; a priest, two ghost busters, and a medium to help release the demon that possessed Kisha. In this movie there were a few scenes where one could clearly tell that their effort to make jokes epically fails. There were a lot of references Maybe worth to get it at Redbox. However, these words still do not bring the book justice. It makes the reader feel the intensity of the situation as if they were actually there. It grips the reader, compelling them to read just one more chapter even though it is already one o'clock in the morning. Ashes also appeals to the reader's emotions, making them feel the character's desperation, sadness, and sometimes joy. Ashes is just the first of certainly epic trilogy. In the beginning of this book Alex is vaguely explaining parts of her past and why she is deciding to go on an adventure that could permanently change her life without her knowing. Alex explains, with despair and contempt, about a brain tumor she calls "the monster" and how it has slowly destroyed her life. At first it wasn't noticeable because it was just a little smell, just smoke blended in with the rest of the world. Then, soon after her smell was completely gone. The doctors had tried to stop "the monster", or at least slow it down but none of the treatments had done anything. The doctors said that she didn't have too much time left. However, the tumor was not the only horror she had do deal with. Her parents had also died just before the symptoms of the An awesome book that will definitely capture your attention
