St. Rd. 57 Petersburg Sunday school 9:30; children's Sunday school and morning worship 10:30; Sunday evening worship on hiatus until March 9; Tuesday Bible study 4 p.m. "God's readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation's available for everyone! We're being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God filled, God-honoring life. This new life is starting right now, and is whetting our appetites for the glorious day when our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, appears. He offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark, rebellious life into this good, pure life, making us a people he can be proud of, energetic in goodness" (Titus 2:11-14 MSG). This new life is available now! If you haven't tried it, you haven't lived. In fact, without the grace of God given through His Son Jesus you're already dead. Come live! Jesus is waiting. We invite you to Rumbletown to worship Jesus the King. The Rumbletown Church is located three and one half miles south of Petersburg on Indiana State Road 57. The poor man in his utter misery shouted, "If you are a friend, stop asking how I fell in, but help me out!" The Lord Jesus Christ wants to impart His life to us. We may in our foolishness want a full explanation from Him as to why He permitted us to fall in the first place, but John 3:16 tells us that the most important and urgent thing is our salvation from sin and death. Bob Shepherd, Reporter Pleasant Grove G.B. Church Spraggins Sunday school 9:30, Kathy Miller, superintendent; Michael Miller, morning speaker 10:30. Everyone welcome. Sunday school lesson for Jan. 20, 2013—Gaining in Jesus Christ. Last week's Trivia question: Jesus' death on the cross is the ultimate expression of what? Answer: Obedience—Hebrews 5:8. Next week's question: From which of the 12 tribes of Israel did Paul descend? Hint—Philippians Mini message: What are you willing to give? Worldly wealth and fame is everything to some people. There is nothing wrong with obtaining the best life has to give when kept in proper perspective. Be careful not to let your worldly accomplishments get in the way of your relationship with Christ. In order to truly know Christ and the resurrection power we must make sacri- fices. Paul gave up everything—family friendships and freedom to know Christ. What are you willing to give? A crowded schedule in order to set aside time for Bible study? A few minutes each day for prayer? Your friend's approval? Some of your plans for pleasure? Whatever it is, knowing Christ is worth the sacrifice. Until next week—Nothing compares with the value of knowing Christ. Fred Faith, Deacon Kathy Miller, Reporter Bethel G.B. Thought of the week: When I awake at early morn to meet the coming day, I want to be prepared to take whatever comes my way.— Simmons Bob Deel, Pastor Alan Christmas, Reporter main street presbyterian church 910 Main Street, Petersburg Sunday school 9:15; Sunday worship 10:20. A nursery for infants is available, through age seven and children's church for ages 3-12. Only is enough God is not looking for the best qualifications, best ability, best charisma, best prospects type of people—not that he would turn down these sorts automatically, because it's also true that some of the most gifted people in our society have also been some of God's best servants. But that is a coincidence and not a requirement. I think that is because God knows that the vast majority of men and women fall into the "I am only" category. But only is enough with God's help, and it would amaze you what God can make of them. Office hours: 9-noon, Mon.-Fri. Phone: 354-6844. Boyd Heldring, Pastor Amy Melhiser, Secretary New Liberty G.B. Church Coe Sunday school 9:30 a.m., Ryan Edrington, Superintendent, Rev. Gary Pancake, Assistant; Sunday morning worship at 10:30. We had a nice crowd for such a dreary day on Sunday. Smiling faces take away the doldrums. We enjoyed the kids singing during the worship service. Rev. Pancake's message was very inspiring and gave us good advice on raising our children in the church. Rev. Pancake will begin a membership class on Sunday, Jan. 27 for anyone interested in becoming a member or wants to know more about General Baptists to attend this class. Let Rev. Pancake know if you wish to attend. There will be an open house for Steven Williams on February, 2 from 2-6 p.m. (EST) at the Spurgeon Park. Steven will be leaving for the service. Continue to remember those who are traveling, sick, or have other issues in your prayers. We have many on our prayer list who are in need of prayer. Our Mission Statement: Loving the 99, always looking for the one. Gary Pancake, Pastor Georgia Mason, Reporter Winslow U.M. Church Sunday morning worship at 10:15. We will save a pew for you. As we enter a new year, here are a few gentle, humerous "Thoughts for the week": 1. The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for. 2. Aging, eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it. 3. Did you ever notice? The Roman Numerals for forty (40) are 'XL'. 4. The easiest way to find something that's lost around the house is to buy a replacement. 5. The sole purpose of a child's middle name is so he can tell when he's really in trouble. 6. Precious Lord, Take My Hand, and Help Me Up. 7. Go tell it on the Mountain, but speak up. May God Bless us in 2013. Carl Meeks, Lay Minister Devara Krause, Reporter Religious viewpoint Why celebrate the Lord's supper? By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam The Lord's Supper was first instituted by our Lord after His last observance of the Passover (Luke 22:14-20). The main elements of the Passover feast were roast lamb, unleavened bread and bitter herbs (Ex.12:8) while at the Lord's Supper they were bread and wine (Luke 22:19,20). Furthermore, the Lord's Supper was given by Paul to the Gentiles as a celebration of what Christ had done for them. Here let us be Bereans and ask a question or two from Scripture. Was not the Old Covenant made with Israel (Ex.19:36)? And does not this covenant affect the Gentiles? "Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God" (Romans 3:19). It is significant that Paul calls himself and his coworkers, not Peter and the eleven, "able ministers of the New Covenant" (II Corinthians 3:6). And remember he was "the apostle of the Gentiles"(Romans 11:13) and wrote this to Gentiles. As with the Old Covenant, so with the New, full light was not given until the revelation of the mystery to Paul by the exalted Lord. The simple fact is, that what was promised to Israel and Judah un- der the New Covenant (Jer.31:31-34) we, Gentile believers, receive by grace. As we came under the condemnation of the Old Covenant so we also come under the blessing of the New—by grace, for remember, the blood of the New Covenant, shed at Calvary, was also shed for us. It is that blood whereby we are saved. He shed no other. But, beloved reader, has it ever occurred to you that to accomplish this, our blessed Lord had to be baptized into the human race—become bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh–one with us, yea, one of us? Before we could be baptized into Deity, He had to be baptized into humanity. Before we could be baptized into His death, He had to be baptized into our death (Luke 12:50). To lift us from earth to heaven, to bless us with all spiritual blessings, He had to take on Himself a physical body to be beaten and scourged and spit upon and crucified. God would have us remember this. And not only would He remind us of this stupendous fact and have us live in the light of it (Colossians 1:21,22): He would have us show it forth to others as well. "This do in remembrance of me." "For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come" (I Corinthians 11: 24, 26). "Searching For Happiness" By Clyde Dupin Everybody wants to be happy in whatever they do. Everyone on the planet wants happiness but where do we find it? Regardless of our circumstances, we can be happy. True happiness is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The true Christian faith is the only way to be happy in an evil world where sin abounds. On Dec. 14 in Newtown, Connecticut the calm day was shattered when, in a few minutes, 28 lay dead and 20 were small, innocent children. In America, it has become a sickening scene all too often. The real answer is sin and evil. Our happiness turns to tears and we wonder why. Many believe it is a culture influenced by Hollywood, violent video games and the evil found by our young people on the Internet. One thing is for sure, when God and the Bible were removed things started happening in America. I could mention sexual perversions and many other sins. In simple language, our culture told God to leave us alone. In this kind of world will happiness return? With broken hearts and sad tears this senseless act of carnage happiness may return. These broken hearted parents and loved ones will never get over pain and sad memories. Happiness is a gift from Continued on page 4 Continued on page 4 WHERE WILL YOU GO?
