"Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed" (Luke 5:16 NIV). Martin Luther said, "Prayer is the most important thing in my life. If I should neglect prayer for a single day, I should lose a great deal of the fire of faith." The hymnist wrote, "Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, that calls me from a world of care. And bids me at my Father's throne, make all my wants and wishes known. In season of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief. And oft escaped the tempter's snare, by thy return, sweet hour of prayer." When the disciples asked Jesus about prayer, He began by saying, "When you pray" (See Matthew 6:915). He assumed they'd have a regular time for prayer. Could He assume that about you? Taken in part from The Word for you today. See you in church next Sunday. "Don't miss heaven, the marriage supper of the Lamb" Jesus went into the house of a chief Pharisee to eat bread on the Sabbath Day. There was a man before him who had dropsy. Jesus spoke unto the lawyers and Pharisees saying, is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath Day? They held their peace. Jesus healed the man with dropsy and let him go..Jesus asked, which one of you having an ass or ox falling in a pit, will not pull him out on the Sabbath Day? A certain man made a great supper and bade many. He sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, "Come now for all things are now ready." And they all with one consent began to make excuses. One man bought ground. Another bought five yoke of oxen. Another said I have married a wife and can't come. The servant told his Lord these things. The master of the house was angry at the servant. He told him to go H Religious Viewpoint Continued from page 4 God to those who faithfully serve Him. Bad things will still happen to good people and sin will still stalk our nation. To know real happiness we must know God. No amount of money, pleasure or popularity will bring true happiness. Happiness and hope will always be here for the Christian. Sorrow and grief are like snow; it always melts away in the sunshine. As we grieve for those in Newtown we can join them in fervent prayer, believing that this too shall pass away and God's peace and hope will be the warmth in our hearts. In God's word we find more promises than we need. He said, "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." quickly into the streets, and lanes of the city, bring in the poor, the maimed, halt and blind. Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in that my house may be filled. For I say unto you, none of those men that were bidden shall taste my supper. (Luke 14). To know God we must release all of the empty strategies of mind and will and simply receive Christ and His righteousness. "And be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith" (Philippians 3:9). He will show what is good and require you to be just, love mercy and walk humbly with Him. And His desire is to show Himself strong in your life and through you touch others. If you are looking for a house of worship come by and visit. We have a family atmosphere and people with big hearts of love desiring to see people grow in a relationship with Jesus. "Worship" Someone has well said, The difference between listening to a radio sermon and going to church is the same as the difference between calling a girl on the phone and spending an evening with her!" God's Word says, "Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:24-25). John Manges, Minister Mt. Pisgah G.B. Church "I cry out to the Lord: I pray to the Lord for mercy" (Psalm 142:1). You can talk to God because God listens. Your voice matters in heaven. He takes you very seriously when you enter His presence, He turns to you to hear your voice. No need to fear that you will be ignored. Even if you stammer or stumble, even if what you have to say impresses no one, it impresses God, and He listens. He listens to the painful plea of the elderly in the rest home. He listens to the gruff confession of the death row inmate.
