B-10 Wednesday, January 16, 2013 The Press-Dispatch H Lady Chargers win Continued from page 1 field goal try, but missed on a free throw attempt. Like put in another basket and Ashby canned a three for a 26-10 lead at halftime. Pike Central out scored the Lady Lions 20-4 in the second period. They also made eight of 15 field goal tries in the second period and had a 10-2 edge in rebounding. The Lady Lions scored the first two points of the third period, but their comeback try ended very abruptly, even though PC did not score the first three minutes of the second half. Howes completed a three point play and Catt put in two field goals off feed passes from Halbrader and Nicah McFarland. A basket by McFarland had the Lady Chargers on top 35-12. Catt followed that with a put back basket and Roettger nailed another jump shot followed by a basket by Halbrader. The Lady Lions scored the final two points, but trailed 41-14 at the end of the third period. The Lady Lions were cold in the final quarter not scoring the first two minutes and then making only one of two free throws. They made one more free throw in the quarter with 1:06 to play. The Lady Chargers were on the road Thursday and committed too many turnovers against a good Jasper Lady Wildcats team and could not stay with them losing 66-36. "We played really hard in this game, but we were under-manned and had to many turnovers against a good team like Jasper," said Coach Randy Graham. The Lady Wildcats went out fast taking an 18-6 lead in the opening quarter. The second quarter was much closer, but Jasper still had a 15-12 edge to lead 33-18 at halftime. Pike Central again scored 12 points in the third quarter, but they gave up 20 and that was way to many. The Lady Chargers were down 53-30 at the end of three periods. Jasper had a 13-6 margin in the final frame of play. Pike Central committed 25 turnovers and Jasper only 11 and Jasper scored a lot of points off the turnovers. Like had 11 points for PC and Howes 10. Like had eight rebounds and Catt four. Like had three assists, Halbrader three and Roettger two. The Lady Chargers were without starters Michal Ashby and Alyx Abbott. Abbott could be back with the team later this week and Kalee Hadley is expected to join the team after being out for an injury from volleyball. Pike Central 36, Jasper 66: Leighty 1-2,0-0,2-2,0,3,4; Like 3-8,0-0,5-6,2,8,11; Howes 2-4,1-7,3-4,0,0,10; Halbrader 0-4,0-0,3-6,3,3,3; Catt 2-4,0-0,0-2,4,4,4; Roettger 203,0-0,0-0,3,3,4; Nixon 0-1,0-0,0-0,1,0,0; Hanselman 0-0,0-0,0-0,0,1,0; PC totals: 10-26, 1-7, 13-20, 13, 22, 36; Jasper totals: 14-40, 8-16, 1423, 17, 23, 66. Turnovers was again a big part of the story for the Lady Chargers at home Saturday afternoon, but so was a lack of offensive out-put in a 4521 loss to the North Posey Lady Vikings in Pocket Athletic Conference play. The Lady Chargers stand at 4-12 overall and 1-5 in the PAC. "We had no offensive production in this game," said Coach Graham. "It is hard to compete when 26 turnovers are committed. We have to show more patience and execute offensively. We are not doing that right now." The Lady Chargers did not score during the first half of the first quarter of this game and gave up the first six points to the Lady Vikings. Emily Howes finally broke the ice with 3:27 re- maining in the period. That would be their only field goal. North Posey added an additional four points before Catt made one of two free throws to end the scoring in the first frame. Neither team scored in the final 1:40. Pike Central did not pick up its scoring pace in the second period. The Lady Vikings had the first three points. Like canned a three pointer at the 6:41 mark for a 6-13 score. The Lady Vikings scored the next six points to lead 19-6. Olivia Leighty made a free throw and Ashby made a basket off a feed pass from Like for a 9-19 count with 2:23 remaining in the half. That would be the final points for the Lady Chargers as they missed one shot and one free throw try and turned the ball over several times. North Posey added another six points for a 25-9 lead. The only good quarter defensively was the third. Pike Central cut the Lady Vikings offense off not allowing a point until 1:09 remained in the third quarter and then allowed only a free throw and one basket. The LAdy Chargers offense, however, never did get into gear. Like scored with 4:30 remaining in the period for the first basket. PC missed its first three shots and made only two of 11 field goal attempts in the quarter. Halbrader made two free throws with 2:34 to play and Like had another basket at the 1:31 ,ark for a 25-15 score. Pike Central trailed 280-15 at the end of the third period and was still in the game. The Lady Vikings defense was stiff in the final period, but PC was committing turnovers which killed any comeback chances. A basket by Like with 7:18 remaining had PC down 30-17. North Posey scored the next 11 points to put the game away. PC was three of seven from the field in the final frame, but committed seven key turnovers. Like led the way with 9 points. Catt had five rebounds, Halbrader four and three each for Ashby and Howes. Ashby, Like and Halbrader each had two assists.
