MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY NEAL SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES SEPTEMBER 2018 1 2 3 4 5 DAILY ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE AT THE COA/SENIOR CENTER Outside Walking Trail Cards and Billiards Table Tennis Exercise WI FI One of the most popular TV shows ever aired is "The Andy Griffith Show" on CBS televi- sion. As most everyone knows, Andy started out widowed and we met several of his girlfriends through the course of the show. Then, he met schoolteacher Helen Crump….and the rest is history! For the last few years, the Neal Senior Center has paid tribute to "The Andy Griffith Show", which has been the theme for the Gold Club Dinner Theatre. This year, we will be doing a collection of scenes from "The Andy Griffith Show", focusing on the courtship through the years of Andy and his long-time girlfriend Helen….from beginning to end! The event will be held on Thursday, October 18 at the Neal Senior Center. With the assistance of drama instructor Becky Reger, we will present this "courtship history" entitled "Andy and Helen-The Courtship Continues". Dinner will be served from 5:30-6:30pm, followed by the presentation. After the presentation, there will be wed- ding cake and coffee. It will be a fun evening of entertainment with a "down-home" flavor! If you are a "Gold Card" holder, the event will be free of charge. For non-Gold Cardholders, the charge is $20 per person. Even if you are not a Gold Card holder, this is still an outstand- ing bargain for dinner and entertainment! For further information and/or make reservations, please contact Mary Hamrick at 704/482-3488. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Reservations will be taken on a first come-first served basis, and the deadline for making reservations is Friday, October 12. Call early and reserve your place! All proceeds will go to the Neal Senior Center to support its services. 2018 Gold Club Dinner Theatre "The Andy Griffi th Show" -"Andy & Helen-The Courtship Continues" "Recycling" has become the popular word in the last number of years. All of us know about recycling paper, plastic, glass and of course, cardboard. However, not many have considered recycling but- tons! Most of us have buttons that have come off a garment that was never sewed back on, so it winds up in the sewing kit or a jar for stor- age….and forgotten about. Some people have collected scads of but- tons over the years, particularly if they do a lot of sewing. If you are one of those "button collectors", let us take them and use them to create art! "Button Art" is a new craft that is easy and fun to do! Regardless of your "artistic skills", you can create many intriguing pieces of artwork easily and inexpensively. At the same time, you will be recycling buttons by using them in a new and different way. With the holidays on the horizon, this will be a fun way to make homemade Christmas gifts for those on your gift list this year. If you've never seen "Button Art" and would like to get an idea of how a project is done, the Neal Senior Center is displaying samples of this craft through the month of September in their Socialization Area. The Neal Senior Center will be hosting a four-week class in "Button Art". Rose Addington, who specializes in this unusual craft, is teaching the class. The class will begin on Wednesday, October 3, from 9AM-11:30AM. The class meets each week through October 24. The class is free, but pre-registration is a requirement. In addition, an information sheet about this technique will be available at the Reception Desk. There is a limit of fifteen spaces in the class, so to pre- register, please call the Neal Senior Center at 704/482-3488.
