WE'RE OPEN cafe & cakes cof fee cafe Washington man arrested for never receiving license has several warrants By James Capozella Santos Dubon Caraban- tes, 37, of 2049 S. SR 57, Lot 21, Washington, was arrest- ed July 1 at 4:31 a.m. for Op- erator Never Licensed and also outstanding warrants from several counties. Petersburg Corporal Jared Simmons stopped a black 2010 Toyota passen- ger car on Knox Road at the sub station, just north of Spruce Street, in Peters- burg on Sunday. When asked for his driv- er's license and registra- tion, Carabantes gave an in- ternational driver's license, according to the report. Simmons asked Carraban- tes if he had a valid Indiana license or a license from any other state, and he ad- vised Simmons that he nev- er had a driver's license. A f- ter a brief investigation, in- cluding running a criminal history of aliases by central dispatch, Simmons placed Carabantes under arrest and transported him to the Pike County Jail for Opera- tor Never Licensed. During the booking pro- cess, it was found that Cara- bantes had several warrants through other counties. Hedinger charged with possession and dealing in paraphernalia By James Capozella A traffic stop by Pike County Sheriff's Deputy Buck Seger and a subse- quent investigation, which included K9 Officer Bleck, resulted in possession and dealing in paraphernalia charges against Daniel D. Hedinger, 30, of 602 E. La- fayette St. Winslow. According to the report, Seger observed a silver 2002 Chevrolet truck trav- eling east on Hwy 56, near CR 900 E., going 73 mph in a 55 mph zone and initiated a traffic stop on June 30 at 5 a.m. While officer Seger explained the reason for the stop and asked for the license and registration from Hedinger, he smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle. A silver-colored marijuana grinder in the cup holder in the center console was ob- served by Seger. When asked by Seger if there was marijuana in the grinder, Hedinger said yes. A fter Hedinger exited the vehicle, K9 Bleck was retrieved to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle and he indicated by sit and stare on the driver's door seam of the truck. A fter Heding- er was placed in handcuffs, he was asked if there was any more marijuana in the vehicle and he stated there was a marijuana smoking pipe in the center console. Upon searching the ve- hicle, it was found that the grinder contained plant ma- terial that tested positive for marijuana. There was also a glass smoking pipe with residue, which tested pos- itive for marijuana, accord- ing to the report. A plas- tic baggie that weighed ap- proximately 26.8 grams and tested positive for marijua- na was found in the glove box. Hedinger was transport- ed to the jail with possession and paraphernalia charges. Roach arrested for possession By James Capozella A traffic stop on a white Ford passenger car driv- en by Roger W. Roach, 45, of 4893 US Hwy S. 231, Lot B, Beaver Dam, Ky., by Pe- tersburg officer Jared Sim- mons resulted in marijua- na possession charges last Wednesday. Simmons stopped Roach at Huck's on south Main Street and was assisted by Pike County Sheriff Depu- ty Buck Seger and K9 Offi- cer Bleck. Simmons had Roach step out of the vehicle and K9 Bleck then did a free air sniff around the vehicle, indicat- ing on the driver's door. When asked if there was anything illegal in his ve- hicle, Roach stated there was not, but then said he had given someone a ride earlier and that they might have had some marijuana on them when they were in his car. During the search of the vehicle, Simmons located a folded piece of paper next to Roach's wallet and ciga- rettes. According to the re- port, it contained a green leafy substance Simmons knew to be marijuana from training and experience. Ac- cording to the report, Sim- mons also found a marijua- na roach in the center arm- rest ashtray. A fter being placed in handcuffs, Roach was read his Miranda Warnings and then asked about the mar- ijuana, which he said he knew nothing about and it wasn't his. When told he was under arrest for possession, Roach became extremely belliger- ent and began cussing at of- ficers. He was then placed in a patrol car and transported to the Pike County jail.
