Jesus told the disciples that they needed to be like the lit- tle children. Children have a sense of awe for the Creator and the world around them. Children also have a sense of dependence and know their need of help. Children have a great trust in those around them; we need to have this same kind of trust. We need to humble ourselves as little children. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" ( John 8:32). Also continue to pray for the Nazarene churches in Cuba who lost 10 pastoral couples in the May 18 plane crash. Independence Day lessons for church life Return to the basics - On July 4, we commemorate the origins of our country. In terms of faith, we also pe- riodically need to hear again the foundational stories of creation, the Israelites, and, of course, Jesus. Honor the gift of freedom - "For freedom Christ has set us free...do not submit again to a yoke of slavery" (Gala- tians 5:1, ESV ). We strive as citizens of God's kingdom to live gladly in the freedom of salvation and share that gift with others. Enjoy community - July 4 is known for picnics, parades and other community gath- erings. Similarly, the church is nourished by coming to- gether for worship, meals and other special events. Be light in the darkness - As fireworks brighten the sky with light and color, the church is called to display the Gospel's unique light in a dark world. Our word dy- namite and the Greek word for power - as in, "You will re- ceive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you" (Acts 1:8) - share a root. Through God's power in us, we share Jesus - dynamically- with oth- ers. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Boyd Heldring, Pastor Amy Melhiser, Secretary HUNTINGBURG HOLINESS CHURCH 813 N. Fun for the whole fam- ily. "America was established not to create wealth but to re- alize a vision, to realize an ideal—to discover and main- tain liberty among men"— Woodrow Wilson. "If my people, who are called by my name, will hum- ble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will he- al their land" (II Chronicles 7:14). As the Fourth of July, In- dependence Day comes around and everyday there after, when you see a past military or present mili- tary person, make sure to thank them for their ser- vice. They are the ones that fight to keep our freedoms that we have here in Amer- ica. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have the freedoms we have. Remember God is the one that gave us free- dom. We can choose to ac- cept Him or we can choose to reject Him. Which do you choose? We invite all of you to come and worship with us.
