RBHS talent Easter, also called Pasch in other European countries, is a Christian holiday that can fall between late March to early May. It is often tied with the idea of the "Easter Bunny." This holiday has a lot interesting meanings. Of course the most popular is the common Easter Bunny, but most people don't fully know the story behind it. This supposed bunny hops around laying eggs for children to scavenge for. Like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny would determine whether children have been naughty or nice the passed year. The good children would get baskets full with candy and toys while the bad ones wouldn't get anything. The symbol of a hare was chosen because many believed a hare was a hermaphrodite, an organism that has both sets of parts and can either be the "mother" or "father". This leading to the belief they could reproduce without loss of virginity, tying it into the "Virgin Mary.". The annual Red Bluff High School Talent Show was March twenty-sixth at seven o'clock in the PAC. There were eleven acts that performed the night of the Talent Show. Being interviewed prior to the show, Delaney Sheffield, freshman, said, "I think it's going to go well." Sheffield danced to a lyrical number. Riley Wright, freshman, sang "Turning Tables" by Adele the night of the Talent Show. Wright said, "I think I'm going to be really nervous before, but the competition should go well because there's good talent." Each were quite nervous on how it would go. Sheffield said, "I'm most excited about getting it over with because it's nerve wracking." Wright expressed the same problem. She said that she was both nervous and excited about the experience she will receive of singing in the Talent Show. "I'm nervous that I'll mess up my routine." Sheffield stressed. Both girls talked about the competition they're up against as well. Wright said, "I think they're going to be tough competition, but I think they'll be fun to compete against." Sheffield also spoke of the people performing along with her in the show. "I'm pretty good friends with most of the contestants, so it will be pretty fun." Sheffield and Wright both talked about their talents they will be performing: dancing and singing. When asked why she chose that talent, Sheffield replied, "Because dancing is what I love to do." Wright was more blunt about her answer. "Cause it's the only one I have," she replied. There are fifteen people in all entered in the Talent Show. The acts are singing, dancing, piano, penny- whistle, and there's a band. Today, April 2 of 2015 there will be Red Bluff High School annual Powder Puff football game. This will be the second year Powder Puff has come back for senior and junior girls. Student Government had just brought it up again last year. Years ago it was taught in Physical education classes at the high school. They started making the girls play football as a class unit or activity. They would learn the basic rules of football then split into teams and play games together. They felt they should bring the game back to coincide with the Sadie Hawkins dance of girls ask guys. Powder Puff has always been a game around the United States and Canada where under class girls faced upper class girls. It will not be like an ordinary football game, such as the ones the boys play, this will be f lag football. Even though many people might like to watch the tackling of the girls, there will be no tackling allowed. Most of the rules focus on the basic rules of performance. It will be like the Hawaiian Rally we had earlier this year, but with a completely different theme. It is also that time of year again, where we do the old fashioned "Sadie possible. Morgan Thayer a sophomore at RBHS said, "I prefer sadies over any other dance because the girls get the chance to man up, and ask a guy that maybe she was hoping would ask her eventually. Plus girls are way more romantic." Darren, sophomore, agrees with Thayer's statement and says, "I like how the girls ask the guys to the dance because it would be less awkward and have less pressure on the guy, which is different." The dance is also going to be a black light theme, so be sure to wear white or neon matching shirts! The dance is $5 with an ASB and $6 without. If you're going as a couple Today, Thursday, April 2 at two forty-two in the afternoon, student government, which is ran by Mrs. Somavia, has put together and will be hosting our black light theme rally. This week was dress up week, and today it was your chance to put on some neon and make the gymnasium glow! During the rally they will be doing some good and fun games that you can volunteer for. There will also be some Mr. Spartan contestants doing some stunts and putting on a show for us too. There will be a Dance team performance and the cheerleaders The Librarians and Child Developments class have decided to come together and create a great experience for elementary kids from second grade from Bidwell Elementary School on the twenty- fourth of April. Together they have created a library full of magic and fairy tales. There are many decorations including a beanstalk from Jack and the Beanstalk, pictures from Rapunzel and from Alice in Wonderland, and a carriage and castle from Cinderella. To get the RBHS students involved, the librarians and Mrs. Montandon have also created a week full of lunchtime activities from the twenty- The librarians aren't the only ones who are excited for the kids to come, all the students from child development are also getting excited. Jordan Scribner, Freshman in Child Development said, "We created a castle, and a carriage from Cinderella, and a dragon." The librarian's have been enjoying decorating their Enchanted Library, and Mrs. Clawson said, "I think it creates the mood of fairy tales." Mr.Hendrick's Art classes have also been creating posters for the library to hang. Mrs. Montandon said, while referring to the importance of the kids coming, "It'll be an advantage for them and will give them the familiarity of our campus." The Enchanted Library is helping to prepare for the future students at RBHS. Sadies Hawkins dance and black- football. Monday was coloring contest, Tuesday was a scavenger hunt, Wednesday was a poison apple bingo, Thursday the was a golden egg toss, and Friday the was a cupcake decorating activity. In very formal Christianity, this day is believed to be when Jesus was resurrected, or risen from the dead. Leading up to Easter is another religious holiday called Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday. The week before Easter is called holy week, which includes Easter triduum, Maundy Thursday (also known as holy Thursday), and good Friday. After these smaller holidays, Easter begins as a remembrance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many European holidays use eggs as a huge part in their celebrations. In Norway and other Nordic countries, along with painting eggs, cross-country skiing, and staying in cabins in the mountains, they celebrate i n reading and or watching murder mysteries on Easter. All major television channels run crime shows and magazines print stories for readers to find out "Whodunnit".
