Page 4 April 2, 2015 Arts and Entertainment Additive and not too diffcult, but boring all in all. Amazing movie with an outstanding cast. A fantastic sci-fi novel with a grip- ping plot. Shania Prieto Staff Writer This was an outstanding movie that is a must see with the family. 'Insurgent' energizes audiences but 'Insurgent,' based off of the best selling book by Veronica Roth, was an action packed film full of surprises and Drama. The movie starts out with another nightmare from Beatrice Prior, also known as Tris. This film is full of nightmares, but most of them are nightmares that won't go away after she opens her eyes. Tris, her brother Caleb, Four, Peter, and Marcus, are all in the Amity Faction staying there until they know it is safe to leave. They start to see Erudite and Dauntless cars coming towards them. Eric who was sent by Jeanine Matthews is there looking for Tris and the others. The rest of the people who came were searching for the Divergent. Jeanine wants all of the people from all of the factions to be tested for their percentage of Divergence. At some points, it is really predictable and just like every other action movie, but thankfully it gets more unique towards the end. Jeanine has a box that was left by the founders that Jeanine hopes will guide all the factions back to the original unity. The box can only be opened by a Divergent. Jeanine has been testing Divergents with all the factions, the divergent must complete Amity, Erudite, Candor, Dauntless, and Abnegation simulations. Meanwhile, Tris, Caleb, Four, and Peter have nowhere to run from Eric and the others. They finally found a way out but somebody betrayed them. This is one of the many betrayals in this movie that make it so exciting. The other three stumble upon a train and get on without expecting the other Dauntless are and go to see them. The others were at Candor in Candor. The people from Candor aren't sure if Tris and Tobias have betrayed the other factions, so they make them stand trial under a truth serum where many secrets come out. The Erudite find Tris and the others and attack. It was a great movie to watch because of the energy. It kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Although it was very inaccurate from the book it was still a great movie to see. 'Home' a legendary animated DreamWorks film with the perfect soundtrack that will put you in the moment. I thought this movie was great and I've heard many great comments on the soundtrack, featuring Rihanna, and even Jennifer Lopez. I would say this film is a great one to see with the whole family, no matter what age. 'Home' is based on the 2007 children's book 'The True Meaning of Smekday.' 'Home's original release date was May 20, 2014, but was delayed until March 27, 2015. I would have loved to see this movie earlier, but I guess it was better than not seeing it at all. An alien species called the Boovs are doing what they do best, running away. On Christmas their leader, Captain Smek, voiced by Steve Martin, find the planet Earth to hide from their enemies, the Gorgs. The Boovs plan to inhabit the planet and relocate the humans. Rihanna voices the lead role as Gratuity 'Tip' Tucci, whose mother (Jennifer Lopez) is abducted when the Boovs first invade. I love that Rihanna is in the film because I hear her sing all the time, but I never see her, or in the case, hear her in movies. Another main role is Oh, who's voiced by The Big Bang theory's Jim Parsons. Oh is a misfit when it comes to his alien species. He loves making friends and having parties, but the other Boovs don't accept him and are annoyed by his behavior. Even though Oh may be annoying, I feel it's what makes his character cute. When he meets Tip he figures that since she has a car he can trick her into bringing him somewhere where there are no other Boovs. He is now a fugitive after sending a party invite to the enemy, releasing the whereabouts of their new location. Tip promises to bring Oh along with her if he helps her find her mother. On their journey, Oh and Tip, along with Tip's pet cat "Pig", begin to create a friendly bond. They seem to be teaching each other new things every minute. As Oh starts to remember what Captain Smek told the Boovs about "human people", as they called us, he realizes that he was wrong and there was a lot more to humans than the pamphlet that he provided them had said. In my opinion, Captain Smek is the evil one. Even though this film was a bit predictable, it sure is a DreamWorks classic about friendship and I enjoyed every minute of it. Brittany Lawley Staff Writer 'Red Rising' captivates with enthralling novel turns of the plot made me wonder what was going to happen next. The characters were very well developed and it showed in the way they acted or spoke. The story was very unique and I have never read anything like it. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and left me wanting more. 'Red Rising' by Pierce Brown is a captivating book that is definitely a must read. The book was written for both girls and boys which is a relieving change from all girl novels. The science fiction novel 'Red Rising' by Pierce Brown contains a very well developed and gripping story line. 'The Scorch Trials' confuses readers with twists and turns throughout 'The Scorch Trials' by James Dashner is an extremely confusing book. It's the second of four books that follow Thomas through four different trials invented by 'WICKED'. 'WICKED' is an organization that kind of turned into the government after a disease called the Flare broke out. This is completely insane and I strongly suggest the author see a counselor for what they've written. Solar f lares turned the equator extremely arid and uninhabitable, at least. The ones left from group A went into a dorm where they were supposed to be safe and ate dinner. Thomas awoke to hideous zombie like creatures, called cranks, all of which were trying to get through the bars that had been put on the windows in their dorm. They broke into the main room, their door was locked, and found Teresa's room . They opened it only to find a boy named Aris instead of Teresa, both the group and the boy looked very shocked. I did kind of like this twist because it made things very interesting. The wake the next morning and when they walk in to the main room they find not only a pile of food but an older man, they called Ratman, standing behind an invisible shield. Ratman tells them they need to go through a f lat trans, which only millionaires could afford and was called f lat transportation, only to walk 100 miles north. The boys go to sleep and wait for the next day. When they woke up, they started packing immediately and when the time came they stepped through the portal. Now here's where everything got extremely interesting and confusing. They went down a hall, up a f light of stairs and walked out onto a scorched wasteland. They walked for days and found a crank city that was, luckily, only filled with half gone cranks. They made some arrangements and two cranks agreed to help them make it to the safe haven. Those two cranks are Brenda and Jorge. This book had a lot of twists and turns but not so that it made it exciting, but instead very confusing. I really didn't like this book because, yes it had some thrilling parts, but was just too boring and graphic for my taste. The way she described them in detail was fascinating, and yes I will say that part did entertain me a bit, but the topic was very boring. This book was, to me, a waste of time. Kourtney Sanders Staff Writer Nichole Valdez Staff Writer 'Red Rising' by Pierce Brown is an enthralling science fiction book following a young Red, Darrow, who is a Helldiver, a honorable member of the miners. The Reds are a group of mining people who live upon Mars and struggle to make Mars one day habitable for the citizens of a dying Earth, or so all the Reds think. After Darrow's wife was killed by the Tinpots, the government guards, he barely survives and is rescued by a rebel the Sons of Ares. There Darrow learns everything he has ever been taught was a lie. For years now the elite group, the Golds, have been living on Mars using the Reds as slaves to mine the needed minerals to keep Mars livable. Not only were the Reds being taken advantage of, but the Golds looked to them with contempt and didn't deem them worthy to live in their high up society. The Sons of Ares plan to overthrow the Gold Empire, but to do that they need an inside man, someone high up in the Golds to help them. The Sons of Ares proposed a plan to Darrow to turn him into a Gold, and to place him into the Institute, a prestigious Gold school. At first Darrow laughed at them, but then he decided to join them, for better or for worse. 'Red Rising' is an amazing book that mixed science fiction with the perfect blend of drama and action. The book reminded me of The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner, but exceeded them in many ways. It was descriptive and the plot f lowed together seamlessly. The twists and " ...I strongly suggest the author see a counselor for what they've written. " - Shania Prieto more company. There a r e about a hundred factionless on the train and are angry about them coming into their territory. They get in a huge fight until Four tells the factionless his name. The factionless take them to see the other factionless members. The factionless want to team up with Tris and her dauntless friends. This movie is busy and has so much going on that it can be confusing, but once you catch on it makes e v e r y t h i n g clear. Tris and the others find out where all has inaccurate and predictable plot 'Home' entertains all ages despite expected storyline www.cinemablend.com
