Weekly tidbits Ann Ice and grandson, Luke Ice, spent the holiday weekend camping and trail riding with Tom and Neoma Lashbrook at Shawnee National Forrest. Also camping were Josh, Lisa, Blake, Caleb and Ella Longabaugh. Tim and Renee also spent the weekend camping. Margie Shouse, of Madisonville, Ky., visited with family and friends over Labor Day weekend and stayed with her sister, Betty Cain, while here. Last Saturday, Margie, Betty and Zoan Meeks joined Ruth and Ernie Culberson at an Amish restaurant in Loogootee for dinner and a visit. Terry and Carol Hightower ate and visited in Vincennes with her cousin from Rockford, Ill., on Wednesday afternoon. While together, they were able to have a conference call with other relatives in Washington, D.C. Joe and Bette Coomer were in Jasper shopping and ate dinner on Tuesday. Jean Adams recently attended her 45th year Nursing Class Reunion in Cincinnati, Ohio. She visited her brother, Jon Mills, after the reunion. Kassi Cloutier, Jacob and Sophia had lunch with Ken and Sharon Kramer on Friday. Sophia stayed to visit a while. Labor Day visitors of Janie Arnold at Golden Living in Petersburg were Jr. Arnold, her sisters, Margie Shouse and Betty Cain. Recent Sunday visitors of Vera Potts were her daughter, Barbara Potts and Rick Dance, both of Evansville. Bill and Kay Reneer celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary last Sunday by going to dinner at a restaurant in Fort Branch. While there, they saw Bob Douglas, who married them 22 years ago. Patty Sherman took her sister, Sharon Rumble, shopping in Petersburg on Friday afternoon. Recent visitors of Chalmer and Loveda Burden were their son, Tim, and family of Iowa City, Iowa. They were here to attend the 24th Burden Reunion in Midway, Ind. Rick and Nancy Wheatley went to Vincennes last Sunday morning for breakfast at a local restaurant and then did some shopping before coming home. Last week, they picked up two of their grandsons from school everyday and took them home. John True visited with his parents, Mike and Judy True, last Sunday afternoon. Dessi Waple attended a Tupperware party on Sunday afternoon with some friends in Evansville. Dave and Joni Ice took their grandchildren, Morgan and Jonathon Ice, and Isaac and Caleb True, to Palestine, Ill., for a parade on Labor Day. Recent visitors of Edman Stewart, near Monroe City, were his nephews, Christopher Cox and Conway Cox. Charlie and Betty Jo Wright went out to dinner after work in Vincennes last week. On Wednesday, they went to choir practice at Bunker Hill Baptist Church in Vincennes. Before church on Wednesday, Charlie and Betty Jo went out to dinner with their son David and his wife, Brandi, at a local restaurant in Vincennes. On Friday, David took his mother, Betty Jo to the meat market to stock up for winter. Kaela Kell visited with her grandparents, Rick and Nancy Wheatley one evening last week. Margie Wheeler, of Hazleton, hosted a fish fry on Labor Day with a cookout for her family. Attending were her sons, Bob Sloan and Bill Sloan, of Elberfield; Jeff Sloan and son, Aaron Sloan and friend, Carla and husband and son, all of Jasper; Randy and Kitty Turner, of Vincennes; Robbie Sloan and son, Rodger and Angi Beard, all of Mt. Carmel, Ill. Bob Sloan fried the fish and everyone brought a dish. Before they ate, they formed a circle for prayer. Davie and Brandi Wright, of Monroe City, attended the wedding of Chad Hansen and Jessica Peterson on Saturday in Bicknell. Becky Beadles and her daughter-in-law, Hannah Peil and children, Chase, Cole, Olivia and Brooklyn Peil went to Evansville on Friday to do some shopping. Joyce Selby attended the Farm Bureau annual dinner and meeting at the First United Methodist Church recreation room in Petersburg on Wednesday afternoon. Joyce won a pot of mums. Thursday, visitor of Joyce was her niece, Shelia Burris, of Colorado. Evelyne McClure's daughter-in-law, Karen, is in the hospital, and her daughter, Mollie Ayers, of New Mexico, came in to be with her mother. June Redfarin visited with Evelyne on Thursday afternoon. Luella White went to lunch on Friday with Nina Holderbaugh in Princeton and then they went shopping. Joe Earl and Betty Brackin went out to dinner on Friday evening to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary. The Brackin family and friends also attended the benefit for Kelly Jones, of Vincennes, who is fighting cancer. The benefit was in Bicknell at the golf course on Saturday afternoon. Joe and Betty Brackin, and their children and their families were those who attended. Charlotte Miles and Neena Stevens attended the Stevens reunion in Winslow last Sunday afternoon. On Wednesday evening, she attended church at Immanuel Baptist. On Thursday, Neena Stevens and Betty Hoosier stopped by for a visit and dinner with Charlotte. On Friday afternoon, Charlotte and her son Ed went to Washington for some shopping and ate lunch at a local restaurant. Joe Waple's surgery has been cancelled and will be rescheduled later. Shelia Gee hosted a cookout on Labor Day and guests were Jodi and Barbara Wade. Shelia is Barb's daughter. Dallas Paul Collins went to Jasper Memorial Hospital on Friday to be with his stepson while he had procedure. Rita McGuyer went to Princeton on Monday evening to bowl with her league. On Wednesday, Rita and her sister, Faye Junklin, went to Nebo, Ky., to visit with their brother, Art Dafferon. On Thursday, Rita had dinner with Fran Mablem and Cari. Marge Tharp went to Beulah White's in Union for a cookout on Labor Day along with Mike and Jenna White, Kay and Bill Reneer, Robin White and son, Gage and friend Mike, and his two children, Mikey and Nevaeh, and Lou Gaston, of Princeton. Jenna did the grilling and Kay brought desserts and salads. Past week visitors of Jenny Collins were her sons, Dwight and Rick Collins. Last Saturday, Rick and Brenda Collins had a birthday party for one of their daughter's, Leah Collins. All the family attended. Denver and Marylee Sullivan celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary by going to McCormick's Creek State Park near Spencer and staying Wednesday evening at the Inn. On Friday, which was Denver's 88th birthday, they went to Vincennes for dinner at a local restaurant there. Walt and Marcella Robb went to the Union Store for breakfast on Tuesday morning and then to The Water's in Princeton to visit with Vep Degenhart. Maggie Armstrong spent Friday in Evansville for meetings. Hazel Pauley, Norma Jean Elgers, Betty McDermott and Marilyn Yeryar attended the visitation for their sorority sister, Lillie Pinkston, last week at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton. Jane Rogers celebrated her birthday on September 23 with her sisters and brothers visiting and then she went shopping with her niece, Robin, for some new clothes. Recent visitors Labor Day weekend visitors of Jim and Inez King were their daughter, Judy Elber, and children, Caleb and Sarah, all of Campbelltown, and Hannah, of Evansville; Paul Beck, of New Mexico, and Doyle Beck, of Evansville. Inez's sister, Helen Morton and Keevan Owen, both of Winslow, and Bob Schreiber, of Petersburg, took Jim and Inez to the Union Store for lunch last week. Other past week visitors were Larry Willis, Bootie Shawhan and Troy Johnson. On Saturday, Troy Johnson and his two daughters went fishing at the Kings'. Vonda Whitehead visited her daughter, Connie Whitehead, and family last week in Mt. Vernon. Audrene Cook, of Hazleton, went to Vincennes on Friday afternoon and then that evening Audrene and Don McKibben went to the Moose Lodge in Vincennes for dinner. On Saturday evening, they went to the new business in Hazleton for dinner. There is going to be a Broomstick Tourney on Sept. 15th at the new business in Hazleton on Highway 56. There is a $10 entry fee. Marada and Bill Willis attended the Gentle Shepherd Church in Oatsville to hear the Hawf Family sing. On Labor Day, they went to their daughter's and family, Janet and David Goodrid, for a cookout and to celebrate Marada's birthday. Attending were J.D. Goodrid, Brandon and Shelia Goodrid, Kayden and Austin. Recent visitors of Theresa Loveless Carmen Sterling stopped by to visit with Theresa Blackburn Loveless last week and took her out for lunch twice in Petersburg. Other recent visitors of Theresa were her sister and brother-in-law, Sherri and Lee Lange, of Vincennes; Jane Rogers and Marvin Charles, and Penny Hawkins, of Monroe City; Deanna Klumber and Irvin Gillespie. On Friday, Theresa's sister, Sherri, took her to Vincennes to have her hair done at Vincennes Beauty School and then they went to her therapy. On Saturday, Theresa attended her Petersburg High School Class Reunion, Class of 1975, at Pride's Creek for a cookout. Maggie Armstrong and her parents, Mike and Judy True, went to Monroe City at the Church of God to attend Isaac True's 7th birthday on Saturday afternoon. Recycling project Winslow Elementary fifth graders, Shelby Ridao and Sean Keith, collect paper from the classrooms for the recycle bin. The WES Student Council does this recycling community service project at the school each year. Their favorite paper to collect is the "shreds" that Shelby is dumping in the cart. Melissa True. Witherspoon reunion The Witherspoon family reunion was September 1 at the Fairview Church community room. Attending were Robert Huffman and friend Carol Oeth, Bobby Huffman, Ron and Jane Huffman, all of Fairfield, Ill.; Dan and Susie Huffman, of Stanley, N.C.; Darrell and Janet Resler, of Evansville; John Resler, of Princeton; Judy and Tony Phillips, of Patoka; and Ruby Resler, of Francisco. A carry -in dinner was served with reminiscing, and games were played. A group picture was taken. Phillips reunion The descendants of James Henry and Narcissus Jane Phillips gathered for their annual reunion at the home of Matthew, Jill, Bobby and Katie Sue Embree, and Jim and Judy Kolb near Pond Run Sunday, Aug. 17, with 76 in attendance for a carryin dinner. Many enjoyed visiting the restored cabin of the original home of Jane Phillips, which dates back to 1808. Attending were Mary Katherine Phillips, J.H. Lavon Hunt has been in the hospital for more than 37 days for dialysis. She would enjoy having cards of cheer sent to her. Upcoming events Contra Dancing from Ron Ackman— On Friday, Sept. 13, there will be a dance and music listening session for those who don't necessarily want to dance at Old Town Players Theatre, 5th and Broadway in Vincennes starting at 7 p.m. Blue Jeans Festival On September 12-15 a festival will be on the grounds and inside the old Blue Jeans Center.
