TASTEMAKER The new Vegas boutique is inspired by the freshness and freedom of the 1970s. "Anything can turn my creative process on—from admiring a landscape to visiting a new art show." —ANGELA MISSONI continued from page 92 and unique silhouettes. In a few words, we are lively, sensual, and unconventional." Looking back on M Missoni's 15 years, the inimitable mix of vibrant patterns and body-skimming silhouettes does indeed seem tailored to the woman unafraid to take a risk where her wardrobe is concerned. Rather than one little black dress after another, the label's colorful iterations are genuine objets d'art, finished in a kaleidoscope of magentas, poppies, peaches, and citrines. M Missoni offers riffs on traditional separates such as cropped cardigans, sheath dresses, and figure-flattering pencil skirts, as well as more-original styles like paper-bag shorts, knit bandeaus, and retro-inspired swimwear, all available in playful stripes, polka dots, and abstract graphic prints. With each collection rooted in Angela's lighthearted approach to fashion, the designs are meant to inspire women to experiment with colors, prints, and girlish details all at once. "The M Missoni woman is a globe-trotter, a cosmopolitan never lacking in positivity, curiosity, or a sense of humor," she says. "Her looks are expressions of her uniqueness, her unconventional approach to fashion, and her unintentional talent in mixing, matching, and putting together shapes." Sit down with Angela for even a short time and it isn't difficult to see the connection between the woman she envisions for the brand and the designer herself. In fact, her optimism, passion, and sense of wonder are, at times, overwhelmingly infectious. "I have always been curious about my surroundings," she says, "always taking in what was around me." Fittingly, it is her ability to remain in tune with her surroundings that keeps her design process extraordinarily organic. "For me, inspiration [for a new collection] comes from daily life, conscious and unconscious inputs. Anything can turn my creative process on—from admiring a natural landscape to visiting a new art show, or browsing a book or the Internet." In particular, her newly arrived Fall 2013 collection hearkens back to the late 1970s, an era of hard glam and punk-rock beauties, including Patti Smith, Debbie Harry, and Annie Lennox. "It's a fresh, feminine vision that is both forceful and sophisticated," Angela says of the body-con pieces bedecked with vampy cutouts, mesh borders, and three- 94 VEGASMAGAZINE.COM 092-094_V_SS_StyleSetter_Sept13.indd 94 Sleeveless African violet intarsia dress ($695) and black net pumps ($495) by M Missoni. dimensional studs. This array of rebellious plaid overcoats, cinched miniskirts, and bondage dresses is, without a doubt, the designer's edgiest collection yet, and thus aptly timed to the opening of M Missoni's third West Coast boutique and sixth stateside location, at The Forum Shops. "Las Vegas is a 'never sleeping' city, full of attractions and people coming from all over the world, so it's the perfect spot for us," Angela says. Airy and uncluttered, the new space features lacquered white display counters and mosaic curtains of multicolored sandstone chips reminiscent of oversize guitar picks, a decorative detail meant to "capture the 1970s spirit of freshness and freedom" intrinsic to the brand. In addition to clothing, the boutique carries M Missoni's accessories collection, which includes Lurex-sprayed evening clutches, spiked-heel pumps, pointed ballerina flats, and of-the-moment bucket bags that undeniably speak to the high-glam, Sin City lifestyle. In essence, M Missoni is already a natural fixture in the luxe Vegas landscape: a trove of alluring high-fashion pieces worthy of our desert's stylish elite. "Las Vegas women are confident, feminine, charismatic, and striking," Angela says. "They live life well." Who better to wear M Missoni?
