It was really foggy down in that hole, probably because of the fi rst little cold snap Saturday morning. It was 46 degrees at the ramp when they put in. Water temps were around 80 degrees. It wound up being a beautiful day but it was a rough day fi shing. For the second year in a row, Pinnacle Classical Academy's proficiency rate on required state tests ex- ceeded that of all 115 of the state's K-12 local school districts, according to data released by the North Car- olina Department of Public Instruction. 72.3% of Pinnacle Clas- sical Academy students who took the end-of-grade and end-of-course tests in 2021-22 attained a score of grade-level proficient -- a rate much higher than the state average of 51.4%, and higher even than Cha- pel Hill-Carborro's 70.4%. Economically disad- vantaged students at Pin- nacle Classical Academy were much more likely to attain a proficient score than students across the state (61.8% vs. 35.1%), as were African-American and Hispanic students. "Our students' success on state tests is a tribute to the hard work of our teach- ers and the phenomenal support of our parents," said Dr. Shelly Bullard, the school's headmaster. "Our motto is 'Dare To Soar,' and these results show that students of different ages and backgrounds all soar at Pinnacle."
