John 11:35 You can't stop a hurricane, but you can take steps now to protect yourself and your family. The Atlantic hurricane season is June 1 through November 30 each year. No matter the time, it is always important to be prepared for a hurricane and severe weather. First, watch the weather forecast and be aware when a tropical storm or hurricane is heading for your location. Pay attention to local guidance about updated plans for evacuations and shelters, including shelters for your pets. If you are able, and safe to do so, try to check on neighbors and friends, especially if it becomes necessary to evacuate. Finally, remember that your local sheriff's offi ce can be a useful resource during any disaster, including hurricanes. Another way the North Carolina Sheriff's Association (NCSA) serves the 100 North Carolina sheriffs is through its Statewide Disaster Assistance Network (SDAN). This important program collects and relays information between the sheriffs during emergencies. Working in cooperation with North Carolina Emergency Management, the NCSA's network assists in managing resources (i.e., personnel and /or equipment) by sheriffs' offi ces in affected disaster areas as well as the deployment of resources from sheriffs' offi ces outside the affected disaster area. The NCSA network is prepared to swing into action any time a state of emergency is declared. In any natural disaster like a hurricane, the best protection is to be well prepared. Through its Statewide Disaster Assistance Network, the NCSA is ready to help the sheriffs and our communities of North Carolina weather the hurricane season safely.
