Malone said it would be added into the TIF district. Commission member Jeff Nelson asked Malone if there was " a downside" to creating a TIF. Malone said "In a situation like this, I would say no." He said the flexibility of a TIF would allow the county to finance improvements in several ways. They can use their Economic Development Income Tax, which the county currently collects about $900,000 year, to pay for improvements, or use them as collateral to issue a bond, and then use the TIF revenues to pay back the bonds. Redevelopment Commission member Melissa Bryant said, "The goal from the Redevelopment Commission is to put infrastructure in place so development can go out there." "It is a shame this wasn't done years ago. People made fun of the North Warrick In- dustrial Park, but there are things in it now," said Nelson. Commission voted 5-0 to confirm their resolution on April 30, establishing a Redevelopment Commission and a TIF district. Members of the Commission are County Commissioners Ryan Coleman and Jeff Nelson, Commissioner Assistant Melissa Bryant, County Councilmen Dennis Bishop and Joe Sutton, and non-voting School Board member Chris McKinney. Members from the Petersburg Coleman-Stewart Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars will perform at 11 cemeteries in the northern part of the county, while members of Winslow American Legion will conduct services at 13 cemeteries in the southern part of the county. Each service will consist of a prayer, 21-gun salute and taps. However, there will be an expanded ceremony at Walnut Hills in Petersburg at 10:45 a.m. US State Representative Mark Messmer will speak. VFW members asked people to take a few minutes on Memorial Day to visit the grave of a veteran relative or a friend as a way to show gratitude to those who paid the ultimate price of your freedom. Individuals and organizations can pick up graveside flags for placement on a veteran's grave prior to Memorial Day at the Petersburg VFW. Scott Carnegie DLZ presented the report. It found several code problems such as no fresh air exchange on the furnace and no firewall between the equipment bays and the living quarters. However, DLZ's environmental department found the mold levels were "insignificant." Neither the report nor any other discussion about housing the ambulance service has been discussed in two regular monthly meetings since the April 26 special meeting. The commissioners took no action on the EMS issues other than to acknowledge Young's announcement. In other business, the commissioners approved an additional appropriation request of $15,000 from the highway department for equipment repairs. The request said they only had about $18,000 left in the repair account. Highway Supt. Roger Ham said it would be used to fix a brush cutter. • Commissioners voted 20 to confirm a resolution establishing a Redevelopment Commission and a TIF District. (See related story.) • Shannon Catt, who lives on North St. in Petersburg complained about water backing up on her property and in Meadowbrook. Commissioners said they would look at a culvert in the area. But they said the ditch was on private property. Commissioner Nelson said he grew up Crestview, "so I know a little bit of the history there." Nelson said he thought the neighborhood went together and installed a series of drainage tiles to help the area drain. He said that was done privately and it appeared to be in need of repair, but the county couldn't work on private property. "We can take a look at the culvert and fix that, but I don't think that is what is causing your problem," said Commissioner Davis. The next commissioner meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m Monday, June 3 at the courthouse.
