Alyssa plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana, where she will study nursing. Alyssa participated in the National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Government and FCA, among other things. She is extremely interested in mission work and has spent many hours in that endeavor. This fund was created by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce to help students further their education. Desiree Gerrard Desiree Gerrard is the recipient of the Schafer Pike County Community Foundation Scholarship. She is the daughter of Ronald and Connie Gerrard of Otwell. Desiree plans to attend Evangel University, where she will study secondary education and pastoral ministries. During her years at Pike Central, she has been active in National Honor Society, Student Government, Swing Choir, FCA, Tennis and many church activities. This scholarship fund was created by the late Mr. and Mrs. Karl Schafer for Pike Central students pursuing higher education. This is a renewable scholarship. Hannah McCarter Hannah McCarter is the 2013 recipient of the Vinson Family Scholarship. She is the daughter of Paula McCarter of Velpen. She plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana and her course of study is social work. Hannah participated in National Honor Society, 4-H, Band, Winterguard and Dance during her high school career. Mr. and Mrs. John Vinson created the Vinson Family Scholarship in 2009 to promote higher education in Pike County. Tanner Gray Tanner Gray is the recipient of the 2013 Otwell School Alumni Association Scholarship. He is the son of Mike and Angie Gray, of Otwell. Tanner plans to attend Purdue University and study either business or engineering. During his high school career, Tanner was involved in National Honor Society, student government, graduation committee, Key Club and soccer among other things. The Otwell School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund was originally started in 2002 by Otwell alumni wanting to support higher education. This fund became part of the Pike County Community Foundation family of funds in 2009. ient of the Montes/Fenol Scholarship. Mallory is the daughter of Greg and Bambi Gray. Mallory plans to attend Vincennes University Jasper Campus starting with general studies and then into the nursing program. During her high school years, she played basketball for 3 years and was involved in student government for 2 years. Kari, the daughter of James and Nancy Lemond, of Winslow, plans to attend IUPUI and become a physician's assistant. Some of her high school activities include student government, National Honor Society, SADD, Biomed club, Angel Worx and cheerleading. The Dr. and Mrs. William A. Weathers/Betty B. Wyatt Memorial Scholarship was founded in 1999 to honor these three former educators. Rebecca Lee Rebecca Lee, daughter of Cynthia Pancake and Terry Lee, is the recipient of the Martha and Marion Klipsch Scholarship. Rebecca plans to attend Indiana University and study nursing, ultimately becoming a neonatal nurse practitioner. Some of her activities include National Honor Society, Key Club, student government, FCA, band and cheerleading. Martha and Marion Klipsch started this renewable scholarship because of their belief in post secondary education. Trevor Claridge Trevor Claridge, the son of Phil and Jody Claridge, of Petersburg, is the 2013 recipient of the Petersburg First United Methodist Church Scholarship. Trevor has not made his final decision on his college choice but intends to study physical therapy. He is active in National Honor Society, Key Club, student government, baseball, basketball and football. The Petersburg First United Methodist Church Scholarship was established with funds left to the church by William and Bernice Hilsman in memory of Mrs. Hilsman's mother, Dessie McDade Burton. Emilee Freeland Emilee Freeland is the recipient of the Petersburg High School Class of 1959 Scholarship. Emilee is the daughter of James and Rebekah Freeland of Petersburg. She plans to attend IUPUI where she will study health sciences and creative writing. Emilee has participated in National Honor Society, The Keep (literary club), concert choir and soccer. Members of the Petersburg Class of 1959 started this fund in 2005 to help Pike Central seniors pursue post-secondary education. Jeffrey Estey Jeffrey Estey is the 2013 recipient of the Lawrell Hilgeman Memorial/Optimists of Pike County. Jeffrey is the son of Tom and Jill Estey. Jeffrey plans to attend Purdue University where he will study engineering. During his high school career, Jeffrey has been involved in National Honor Society, Key Club, student government, tennis,and baseball. The Lawrell Hilgeman Memorial/Optimists of Pike County Scholarship was started in 2005 to honor the memory of Lawrell Hilgeman and his membership and dedication to the Optimists of Pike County. netedition • netedition • with Erica Iafrate Erica Iafrate is the recipient of the Darwim and Grace Youngs Scholarship. Taylor is active in National Honor Society, Concert Choir and Softball. She currently works as a CNA at Amber Manor. The Winslow Eagles Scholarship was created in 2011 by the Winslow Eagles to benefit graduates of Pike Central High School. to attend IUPUI and study occupational therapy. He is a member of National Honor Society, Student Government and BPA. He also participated in Hoosier Boy's State last year. Winslow High School Alumni Scholarship Fund was originally started in 1983 by alumni of Winslow High School. It joined the Pike County Community Foundation family of funds in 2000. YEAR The Pike County Community Foundation recently announced the winners of 17 local scholarships for 2013.
