Mowers can be heard over the neighborhood and spring flowers are being planted and give color in the midst of all the green grass. Other colors I have seen are purple, tangerine, gold, white trees and bushes, yellow and white lilies. The rose bushes are loaded with leaves and peonies and shooting up more. Tulips are about to bloom and have you seen the little purple flowers in the grassy areas? No, not the clover. More and more trees and plants for this spring season will show their colors just for you to enjoy, so open your eyes and see their beauty. The cold temps we had last week could have stayed away, but Mother Nature had other ideas for us instead and now the temps have risen a bit in the 70s but for how long? I hope it isn't going to be that cold weather again. I love to open a window and get that fresh air inside and not have to turn on the heat until late fall. Norm and I have been busy learning how to build some double doors, a single door and some steps onto the cabin and if I say so myself, I think we did an amazing feat for not knowing how to build them. At least they serve the purpose they were made for and they do look good. Kay Drury lived in the Brownstown part of Winslow near the wooded area and her family had a celebration of life, where quite a few of her friends came by and shared their memories of Kay with her children. I know she loved to see the deer and squirrels come into the yard and lots of animals, but like me, she didn't like the snakes, no matter if they were the garden kind or not. Kay will be missed but not forgotten in our hearts with memories. Wrestling teams The Winslow Fire Dept. hosted the Tri-State Wrestling teams Saturday night at the Winslow Community Gym. The teams put on a show for the big turnout that consisted of all ages. There were no ring girls but there were three ladders used between five wrestlers who fought each other to get the briefcase that was hung on a rope strung across the gym. One match was a title belt and the title match will be conducted again by those two wrestlers next month in Pike County. There was also a match where about eight wrestlers competed to win a $5,000 check, if he was the only one left in the ring. The Tri-State Wrestling will be back in Winslow sometime in September. As the lights begin to dim this week, I hope you keep an eye on family and friends and do what you can for them, even if you listen to what they have to say. As the kids play their games, slow down and make sure they don't dart out in front of you. Slow down anyway and enjoy your surroundings and always smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see this week. "Sit with a loved one." Picking a great pencil Gage Morton picks a pencil from a selection of pencils available for the kids during registration for the Pre Kindergarten Round-up at Petersburg Elementary School last week as his mother Kayla Morton watches. Melanie Ennis directed the kids through registration and sent them on to testing with PES staff members during this required exercise for kids who will be in Kindergarten next fall at PES. Only about 50 kids went through the Round-up and many more were expected.
