Ed Cahill photo PCMS 6th grade volleyball team ends season with win over North Knox Emma Hunt had 12 points off serve while Myra Hens- ler added 11 to lead the Pike Central Middle School sixth grade volleyball team to a 25 -16, 25 -12 victory over visiting North Knox on Mon- day, Oct. 8. Lakin Sorgius had eight points off serve as the La- dy Chargers improved to 4-5 with the season-ending victory. In the first set, five con- secutive ace serves by Sor- gius gave Pike Central a 5 - 0 lead. However, the Lady Warriors would rally, scor- ing seven of the next eight points to take a 7-6 lead. Following an exchange of points, the Lady Char- gers scored four straight points, including three on ace serves by Hunt, to surge ahead 11-8. North Knox would rally to tie the score at 14-14 and 16 -16 before Pike Central scored nine straight points, including eight following serves by Hensler, to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three match. In the second set, the La- dy Warriors jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Lady Chargers answered with four straight points to take a 4-3 lead. A fter North Knox bat- tled back to take a 5 -4 lead, Pike Central rattled off 10 straight points, including nine following serves by Hunt, to open up a 14-5 lead. The Lady Warriors would get no closer than seven points the rest of the match. "The A team had amazing serving and awesome com- munication," Pike Central head coach Stephanie Shedd said. "Emma Hunt served a ton of points. They were on fire." In the B match, Jackie Berry had 13 points off serve to lead Pike Central to a 25 - 22, 25 -13 victory over North Knox. "The B team kept up the energy and served and passed just as well," said Shedd. "Jackie Berry, Emi- ly Howard and Hannah Bai- ley all had amazing games with super serving." With the win, the Lady Chargers' B team ended the season 3-4. "They won the last three matches in a row," Shedd noted. "Everything came together for them." "I am so proud of all the girls," Shedd added. "I have seen so much improvement throughout the season. I wish them all good luck the rest of the year."
