Second grader Lakai Naranjo spent five chief tickets to read his Fly Guy book to Mrs. Estey's class. First grader Elle Wiscaver used her chief tickets to help in the caf- eteria. Samantha Willis enjoys sitting in Mr. King's chair. This is a privilege she chose with her Chief tickets. In Mrs. Elliott's third grade class Zane DeCoursey and Tucker Loveless are the first graduates from their multiplica- tion facts. I saw part or a glimpse of a Bugs Bunny cartoon as we cleaned up the kitch- en for the Saturday morn- ing breakfast. The Friday night crowd was weak, but those who stayed loved the food and the Winslow Ma- sons sold ice cream. Saturday breakfast was biscuits and gravy, where we saw quite a few stars we haven't seen in a year here in Spurgeon. There were some stars that had gone to the landfill first and then had their break- fast. The lunch crowd served by the Winslow Li- ons picked up a bit when the musical groups began. The first ones up were Chris and Eric Heaton, and Eric came back and sang more great songs. Next up on stage was Matt Sul- livan and Tim Gold, then Dustin Arnold and Cary Thorne sang and played for a while. The next group I heard was the Woodsboro Band of four members. Listening to everyone on stage, I knew some songs and some songs were new to me, but I truly enjoyed everyone who came out to play at the Spurgeon Mon- roe Festival. There was a line at one time to get ice cream at the Winslow Ma- sons truck. We were really worn out by the afternoon hour, and when I hear more on what the rest of the day and night was like, I will let all you know. The time we were there on Friday and Saturday, for me, was re- ally enjoyable and like I al- ways say, "I did have fun." I would like to say to all who worked both days, the fire- man and auxiliary, thanks for all your help and hope we all work together again. To everyone who showed up to enjoy this festival in Spurgeon, we all are grate- ful you came and we will see you all again at the oth- er events to come. Great big thanks to Donnie Pan- cake and Dee Fiscus. All this week on High- way 61, I have seen more and more yards with Hal- loween decorations, some lit up like the house in Coe, and some with flowers and pumpkins at many houses at Enos Corners, then as we drove through parts of the Town of Winslow, there are several yards that have begun the Halloween spir- it. Teresa and I are going to see our mom, Mildred, again, and somewhere around Halloween, Mom may be in Winslow for a visit to see everyone again. I had mentioned that the hot water lines are fixed and the insulation has be- gun to replace what had been soaked and it has come to be a slow process when only one person (Norm) is doing the work, but he is doing a great job anyway and I do love him for that. We have seen our daugh- ter, Laura, more these past weeks as she helps out at her church and now with some help from a relative, she will have a full-time job again in a service she likes. She also has a job from me, but without too much pay, as she types the column and sends it to the Press-Dispatch. I have given her a work out these past weeks, but I really do ap- preciate her help. The deer are moving, so as you travel the roads, especially at night, keep looking, cause we have seen three deer across the street in our area. In Enos Corner, we saw two deer in a yard, on Logtown Road, we saw the rear end on one, and then we had one cross the road in front of us. Most of them we saw over the weekend. The lights are about to dim on this week's ram- blings of Winslow, but keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and en- joy your area, and always smile, wave, and say Hi to everyone you see this week.
