"We definitely had more shots on goal so I think, of- fensively, we were good." "Defensively, just one mis- take was really about it," Western added. "Other than that, until late, they didn't have a lot of real clean looks. Just that one mistake." Despite falling behind 1-0 on Murphy's first-half goal, Western said that his players remained positive throughout the second half. "The bench was good about being positive and keeping everybody involved today," Western said. "When we came off for halftime, all the kids still felt really good. I really didn't have to build them up as much as I thought I would. They thought they were in it. They thought we were good to go. We just weren't able to crack their goalie and finish one." The loss marked the end of the high school soccer ca- reers for the Chargers' six seniors – Christian Ben- son, Austin Dixon, Con- nor Gaines, Austin Holder, Hayden Kabrick and Jacob Vest – who, Western said, will definitely be missed next season. "Facing those seniors at the end is always difficult," Western said. "Those guys have got 53 wins in their ca- reer – that's the most ever for any class in Pike Central history. I can't say enough about the way they've set an example for the young- er kids."
