Striving for New Tehama Country." To local businesses and community leaders, the branding slogan unveiled earlier this year is more than an advertising head- line. It is an attitude and centralizing theme that they hope will revitalize the local economy and increase opportunities for business- es and jobs. "We're competing with thousands of other commu- nities for new business, industry, private invest- ment, and revitalization," said Kathy Garcia of the Tehama County Branding Project, a grassroots move- ment to promote tourism in the region. "Cities that are the most successful in growing opportunities are tourism-friendly, because anyone thinking of moving their business or residence first looks at a potential community through the eyes of a visitor." In order to build a tourism-enhanced econo- my, there needed to be a countywide commitment to making the region a better place to live, visit and do business. The Branding Project needed to develop a realistic vision for the future based on a mar- ketable brand, and a plan on how to achieve that vision. The Branding Project also needed fund- ing. "Reach Your Peak in With enthusiastic com- munity support, the Branding Project raised money from donations and fundraisers that featured Tehama County assets. The funding enabled the Project to get underway.
