Stam Baptist Baptist Baptist CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Assembly of God Continued in next column Continued in next column Ramblings of my mind by Lowell Thomas For believers in Christ, it would be the most blessed of all if this year turns out to be the year of our Lord's coming for His own. How long the present dispensation of grace will be prolonged we do not, and can- not, know. Even St. Paul, who was commis- sioned to make known the glorious truth of the rapture of the Church, did not know. He never dreamed that God would linger in mercy for more than 1900 years, for in I Thes. 4:16 -18 he says: "We who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall be caught up…" Thus instructed Bible-believers in every generation since his day have rightly been on the alert for their Lord to come for them, for they know that "the days are evil" and every hour is an hour of grace. To the Philippians the Apostle wrote: "We look for the Savior," to the Thessa- lonians: "[Ye]… wait for His [God's] Son from heaven," and to Titus he says that we should be "looking for that blessed hope, and the appearing in glory of …our Savior, Jesus Christ" (Phil. 3:20 ; I Thes. 1:9,10 ; Tit. 2:11-13). With the Lord's coming and the close of "the dispensation of the grace of God" so much nearer than it was in Paul's day, we say to the unsaved: "Receive not the grace of God in vain…. Behold, now is the accept- ed time; behold now is the day of salvation" (II Cor. 6: 1,2). And to the saved we say: "Buy up the time," take advantage of every opportunity to win the lost to Christ, for "the days are evil" (Eph. 5:16) and the day of grace may soon be brought to a close. Another week has flew by and if you blink your eyes you'll be opening up Christmas packages and making New Year's resolu- tions. Been busy this past week but can't show much for it. Doesn't seem to accom- plish anything for all the effort. We had another Lions club memorial ser- vice this past Saturday for Mary Martha Curtis. There were many great things said about her life and sounds as though she was a great inspiration for her family and a dedi- cated mother. There were humorous bits in her life as well and it sounds as though she had a good time living her life. As well as I know some of her family I didn't realize that her father was a good friend of mine and a mentor as well in my ministry. I hope that Trea and her family can find some peace- ful time for awhile because they have had it rough recently. I believe God gives us messages through many different people and things. This past week something just didn't seem right and after the fifth Sunday singing at Cup Creek I was browsing through some of the daily facebook postings and one of my preacher friends was on there with yesterday's ser- mon. I sat and listened to most of it which is surprising because most things I have seen on facebook doesn't hold my attention that well. This time it was like I couldn't turn it off and sure enough toward the end was a story that hit home where God wanted it to hit. The preacher told a story about two broth- ers who were angry at one another and they lived next to one another. One of the broth- ers was financially able to pay to have a wall built so the other brother would have to stay away. The carpenter he hired purchased the necessary material and set to building the wall. A fter a few days he was done and when he showed the man his work the man was amazed that the carpenter had built a bridge across the creek. The man said that is certainly a fine bridge but I wanted a wall built and about that time his brother came across the bridge and thanked his brother for the bridge so he could come over and make things right. They invited the carpenter to have a meal with them but he replied thanks but I have another wall to build. The moral of this is you can't ever make things right with some- one if you and they are on opposite sides of a wall so let's build bridges instead of walls. Until next week be blessed and be a bless- ing. Why was prayer so impor- tant to men who were spir- itual giants of the past like John Wesley, John Knox and Martin Luther? Because they knew they were up against almost overwhelm- ing forces of the spiritual op- position. They also knew the urgency of the Gospel mes- sage, and that prayer was an essential weapon in advanc- ing the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Like Paul, they knew that the "weapons of our welfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pull- ing down strongholds" (II Corinthians 10 :4). Is our sit- uation any different today? God desires that we Chris- tians be concerned and bur- dened for a lost world. If we pray this kind of prayer, an era of peace may come to
