Board President Jack Weller was Master of Ceremonies for the evening which honored many of last year's volunteers, supporters and participants in the Club's programs. Presenters and assistants for the eve- ning were Jack Weller, Board Members Bill Chambless and Bob Chadwick, Boys & Girls Club Program Director Mary Pass, Teen Outreach Coordinator Keeynan Pharr, and Club staff members Robin Ledford and Dobson Col- lins, Youth Participant Essence Ervin and the Club Exec- utive Director Joshua Propst. The following awards were presented: Volunteer of the Year Award Christal Ransome Volunteer Service Award Keeynan Pharr, Travis Pettis, Ed Gullatte, Jarred Linder, Antwan Johnson, Shedrick Addison Executive Director's Award Bill Chambless Outstanding Service To Youth Award Travis Strong, Y'Keiah Lawrence, Dobson Collins Board Member of the Year Award Susan Allen Club Emissary Award Tammy Scruggs Youth Partnership Award Pharr Technologies, Fifth Third Bank, Lowes Home Improvement, Travis Powell, Gardner-Webb University IMPACT Center, Cleveland Community College Market- ing Students, Cleveland Memorial Library Good Neighbor Award Episcopal Church of the Redeemer Man-Youth Award Keeynan Pharr Woman-Youth Award Robin Ledford President's Award Nelsa Feaster Foster Grandparent Award Betty Brewton, Ethel Shell, Betty Camp Coaches Award For Youth Basketball Players Dre Hoyle, Denorris Gist, Malachi Gist, Khalil Foster S.T.E.M. Award for Outstanding Achievement The S.T.E.M. Award for outstanding achievement was awarded to Jamya Whisnant for her signifi cant efforts in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S.T.E.M) programming. Youth of the Year Award The Youth of the Year Award was presented, for the second year in a row, to Essence Ervin. Essence is a seven-year member of the Boys & Girls Clubs and a Ju- nior at Shelby High School. She has volunteered in the Jack & Ruth Schweppe Summer Day Camp Teen Leadership Program, and in numerous other capacities with her church and school. She currently volunteers as a peer helper and homework tutor at the Club. In addition to her award, she was presented with a $100 gift card compliments of the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors. Junior Youth of the Year Award The Junior Youth of the Year Award was presented to JoResa Lawrence. JoResa has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club for several years and is a sixth grader at Shelby Intermediate School. She is a regular leader and volunteer at the Club and demonstrates a positive attitude among her peers. In addition to her award, she was presented with a $50 gift card compliments of the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors. Memorial Presentations The following two memorial presentations were an- nounced by Board President Jack Weller. A.W. "Buck" & Patricia Ar- cher Honor Day Camper Award The Honor Day Camper Award is named in mem- ory and in honor of life long Club supporters A.W. "Buck" Archer and his wife Patricia. Buck and Patri- cia were actively involved in the car raffl e and auc- tion each year. Buck was past Board president and served on the Board for more than thirty years. The youth recipient of the A.W. "Buck" & Patricia Archer Honor Day Camp- er Award" was Shedrick Addison. He is a fi ve-year member of the Boys & Girls Club and a fi fth-grade student at Shelby Inter- mediate School. He has played on the club's basketball team for several years and helped win multiple championships. He was recently recognized at the Kings & Queens basketball tournament in Raleigh, NC for outstand- ing sportsmanship. He has been an active participant in the both the After-School Program and the Jack & Ruth Schweppe Summer Day Camp Program. He re- ceived a plaque honoring his achievement and a $50 gift card from the Boys & Girls Club's Board of Directors. Joe & Nell Harand Teen Camper Leadership Award The Joe & Nell Harand Teen Camper Leadership Award The Teen Leadership Award this year was named in memory and in honor of Joe and Nell Harand. The couple passed away in 2016 and the Club wanted to share with the family its appreciation for the support and encouragement they provided the Club over the years. Joe served on the Board since 1970 and had been recognized by the North Carolina Boys & Clubs as Board Member of the Year in 1976. The Joe & Nell Harand Teen Camper Leadership Award was presented to Antonio Harrison. He has been a Club member for four years. He is enrolled in honors classes and is an A-B stu- dent at Shelby High School. After high school, he hopes to attend Gardner-Webb Uni- versity or Ohio State Univer- 412 W.
