The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, August 10, 2012 10 Cooking this week TV Media egetarians hoping for their star turn on the TV food scene might be sorely disappointed this week. V On Sunday, Aug. 12, Travel rolls out the red carpet for its newest food-centered series titled "All You Can Meat" in back-to-back premiere epi- sodes. And as the title implies, it promises to be a celebra- tion of all things meat. Radio and TV personality Chuey Martinez is criss-cross- ing the country in search of the best meat dishes to be had – with a special focus on barbecued meats – and he's found plenty of it. With cameras in tow, he's meeting pit masters, butchers, woodsmen and anyone pas- sionate about making great meat. Brisket, steak, ribs, hot- dogs, even jerky – you name it, Martinez is likely sampling it all as he moves from North Carolina to California and back again. And that's where the ap- peal lies for the Travel Chan- nel. It has had great success with its other food shows, no- tably with hosts Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern and Adam Richman. But while the food is arguably the main star, the locations and the people – not to mention the journey itself – are often just as much a part of the sto- ry, and this rings true with "All You Can Meat." In the premiere episode, Chuey Martinez hosts "All You Can Meat" Martinez is out to find Ameri- ca's best pulled pork. There are countless ways to trans- form a pork shoulder into the tastiest, mouth-watering sandwich filling. So Martinez heads to New Orleans to sample a French twist to the classic recipe before heading out to Denver, Colo., for some Mexican pulled pork carnitas tacos. And that's no easy task, con- sidering how many various ways these can be prepared. Smoked or slow-grilled are just some of the different cooking methods used to cook the meat before even considering the different types of rubs or sauces. Which means Martinez has the envi- able job of having to try it all, from slow-cooked Texas-style brisket to North Carolina's signature sweet and tangy take on the classic.
