SASi is the only Southeast location to show- case this amazing collection of water based media. The traveling exhibit consists of 31 paintings by artists from around the world selected for the traveling show after be- ing juried into the prestigious NWS International Exhibit held in San Pedro, California last year. Over 1000 entries were submitted into last year's competition, with artists from 6 countries being represented in the traveling show alone. One of the highlights of the exhibit is "Howrah Bridge" by Amit Kapoor of India, the win- ner of the National Watercolor Society Purchase Award with Silver Star. This was the high- est award given in the show. Amit describes how he was inspired to create this painting "Whenever I paint distance and perspectives, camera an- gles are what I look for. I loved the dynamic perspective of "Howrah Bridge" which is the glory of Kolkata." Another art- ist, L.S. Eldridge was inspired by a cache of vintage tools found for his painting "The Tooled Edge", winner of the Combined Donors Award VII. Two events celebrate the arrival of the NWS Traveling Show at Southern Arts So- ciety. The Patrons Premier Night on Friday September 30, from 6-8 pm, is an exclu- sive celebration for sponsors and invited guests with heavy National Watercolor Society Traveling Show opens at Southern Arts Society hors d'oeuvres, North Caroli- na wines, and live music with harpist Claire Marie Stam from Greenville, SC. Sponsor levels begin at $50 with tick- ets available up until the night of the event. The festivities continue Saturday October 1 from 6-8 pm with a free reception for the general public. This is a casual affair where ev- eryone is invited to attend. NWS artist Carol Creel from Baton Rouge, Louisiana will be the special guest of both events. Her painting "Mar- bles" is the winner of the Watercolor Artist Magazine Award.
