Sports Golf- Daniel Frantz Junior, Daniel Frantz claimed a Brittany Villa Sports Editor league championship title for the third year in a row and deserves this MVP nomination. He is nationally ranked in golf outside of high school. Daniel just returned from tour- naments in Florida and is going to Illinois, Kentucky, and Canada for world golf events. He is very driven to do well in these events. "Self-discipline and hard work equals success," said Daniel. He has been playing golf since he was four years old and hopes to be signed to colleges by this summer. He aspires to become a PGA Tour Pro. Golf has always played a large role in Frantz's life and takes a lot of his time and energy. "Golf shapes my schedule and my life. I am always preparing for my next tournament and making golf-related goals to ensure that I am improving constantly," said Daniel. The golf phenomenon had a very successful season with the Red Bluff High School team. He appreciated Coach Tomasetti and believes that she does a great job motivating the team and laying out a plan for everyone to improve. "What other coach can say their team always wins a league title?" said Daniel. According to Daniel, the highlight of the season was the team winning for the third time in a row. He plays for the competition. "Winning is what I want to achieve individually and as a team every time I step foot on the course," said Daniel. Daniel really enjoyed his golf season this year and looks for- ward to dominating league for a fourth year in a row. His main influence for tennis was his own coach Stan Twitchell who helped influence his game to be more hard core. Igor placed 6th place in the North State championships. In the championships, he won one of two matches, but scored more points overall. Igor has been playing tennis with his family since he was 6 years old. He kept playing the game because he loved the game and he loved winning and the feeling of victory. His parents always supported him and helped him get to where he is today and they are very proud. His season of Red Bluff tennis started at the end of February and ended in the middle of May. "I feel great about the outcome. I came to win and I achieved my goal and I am happy about that," Igor added. His goal was to make it to sections and win it. That was also his biggest achieve- ment of the season. He won sections in both singles and doubles. His goal for next year is to improve all his game and get a scholarship for a good school. He managed to achieve all these goals even though this is his first year of play- ing American tennis. Igor is from Slova- kia and the tennis there is more compli- cated and hard to play because it is played on dried red clay, not cement. Igor wants tennis to expand even more out in the world and for it to get big- ger. There are many good players out in the world that people don't recognize. He wants to extend his tennis career to college because he doesn't feel like he would make it to US open. Golf Peter Mitzel's season lasted through to the first round of play-offs this Soccer Chelsey Jauregui, center mid, kept team morale and was consistent in her assists and corner kicks. The highlight of her season was when they beat Shasta 2-0. She scored one goal and assisted the other. Soccer- Rachel Ward Claire Samay Staff Writer Rachel Ward, Varsity girl's soccer player, received the All-League award this season. "Getting All-League makes me feel happy and super accomplished," said Rachel. The team set many goals throughout the season, one of Rachel's personal goals since the beginning of the season was to receive that award. Rachel thinks the reason she received this award was because every game she tried her hardest to play the best defense she could and have the best attitude possible. She started every game thinking, "Okay, let's play good for the other coaches, I need them to remember me somehow." This really helped her stay motivated throughout the entire season, which was something she knew she needed to improve on. "The season also helped me practice better habits on the field like communicating louder and taking better control of the situation," said Rachel. Rachel was very proud of the team's performance this season. "We beat Shasta for the first time in years, on their own turf" said Rachel. Unfortunately this season, injuries did make an impact. "I can only imagine how much better we could have done if we didn't suffer from so many injuries" said Rachel. According to Coach Barrow, "Rachel is one of the best defenders in Northern California."
