"We all played really hard and ended the season on a high note." -Dillon Garcia Bluffer/ partan ound S off "We're playing good together and if we keep it up we have a shot at winning league." -Ellie Fletcher Claire Miller Staff Writer Gabriel Hale Staff Writer Hanne Dittner Staff Writer Varsity soball transcend in league This year's Red Bluff High School's Varsity softball team is doing a fantastic job in league and in tournaments under the inf luence of their head coach, Aubree Thomas. In this season there people have gotten hurt to where they are out for at least the season. Many softball players came up with knee and arm injuries throughout this years season but for these few players of the Varsity softball team, they are considered the lucky ones. When asking Sophomore at Red Bluff High School, Brooke Brown about how she thinks their team is doing in the season so far, she replied with, "I think our team is doing extremely well this year as not only a team but a family. This year I think our varsity team has really came working on her weaknesses so that she could make varsity this upcoming year. When Brown was asked how their team is doing tournament and league wise. She answered with, "This season is going awsat in my opinion because we have all came together even with our new players from last years JV team." This year, Brown has injured her knee and sadly she is probably going to be out for the rest of the season. V a r s i t y softball has done well in league and as well as in tournaments. Brown has played softball for "as long as she can remember." When asking sophomore girl, Braydi Johnson what their team goal would be for the season, she replied with, "I believe that our team goal is of course to win league and go to playoffs like al, the rest of the teams, but then again I really want to get a shutout. A shut out is where you beat a team buy a lot of points..." Last year, as a freshman, Johnson, now a sophomore, went out for softball making the JV team. With making the JV team Johnson considered that as an opportunity to make improvements to make varsity the following year. When Johnson got the announcement that she made the JV team, she immediately started "I would say our toughest competitor was probably either Enterprise or Foothill, because we were the most evenly matched against them, when we played those two teams we did our best to outhustle them and try to get the win." Throughout the Red Bluff High School boys tennis team's season there were three matches that were rained out due to the recent El NiƱo conditions. Stan Twitchell the coach of the Red Bluff High School boys tennis team has been c o a c h i n g the boys for 7 enjoyable y e a r s . When asked Twitchell how do you think this years season went, Twitchell said, "We have a lot of new players and its a very young team so we had a lot of improvement throughout the season given the circumstances." Even though the Red Bluff High School boy's tennis team ended their season with a record of two and eight but they still had great spirits and had a lot of fun throughout the 2016 boys tennis season. The 2016 Red Bluff High School boy's tennis team coached by Stan Twitchell, ended their season on Thursday April 14th playing against Paradise at Paradise High School. Even though the boys lost the match Dillon Garcia said, "We all played really hard and ended the season on a high note." W h e n asked, how do you personally think your season went, Garcia replied with, "I would d e f i n i t e l y say that we had our ups and downs, but we are a young team, and you could see the improvement throughout the season, we also had a blast through it all so overall I think this year's season went really well." Some of the boy's tennis team's weaknesses were not hustling at some points throughout the matches, but the boy's have great determination to stay in every match and have a great time throughout their season. When asked who is your toughest competitor, Garcia answered, RBHS junior varsity boys baseball aspire to RBHS track team face their Tennis ends season well Braydi Johnson, sophomore running towards the home plate during last Tuesdays home game against the Shasta High School Wolves. The 2016 Red Bluff High School Track team has been performing pretty well in the past couple meets. Sophomore Marshall Brose who has been participating in Track for two years now said he did pretty good in his last meet. "Where I expect be at the end of the season is to make it to the meet of champions and go to sections," said Sophomore Marshall Brose. What Brose believes his biggest challenge is actually getting to practice when they can to get better. Marshall believes that this year's Track team has been doing pretty well. Junior Casey Pierce who has been participating in Track for two years now. He did pretty good getting second in the 400 meter race and second to last in the 200 meter race. "Where I expect be at the end of the season is to the best on the team and win every 200 meter race," said Junior Casey Pierce. What Peirce believes to be his biggest challenge is the injuries he gets. Casey believes that this year's Track team has been doing okay. Senior Jacob Samuelson who has been participating in Track for six years now said he did good getting first in Shot Put and Discus. "Where I expect be at the end of the season is to have the best Shot Put record in the school and go to state," said Senior Jacob Samuelson. What Samuelson believes to be his biggest challenge is his knee injury that he has obtained. Jacob believes that this year's Track team has been doing pretty good over that past couple meets. Freshman Lucas Barriga who has been participating in Track for only one year now said he did okay in his last meet. "Where I expect be at the end of the season is to have my fastest mile time yet," said Freshman Lucas Barriga. What Lucas believes to be his biggest challenge is trying to get faster. Lucas believes that this year's Track team has been doing okay over that past couple meets. Freshman Elijah Williams who has been participating in Track for only one year now said he did good getting second place in the mile out of the Red Bluff High School J.V. team. The next meet that the Track team will play is today at Yreka against Yreka. pull wins against hardest rivals Chico and PV Red Bluff High School JV baseball player up and ready to bat. This seasons Junior Varsity Baseball team has gotten a decent start off to the year. All of the players have enjoyed the sport since they were in diapers. Tristen Hobart, Freshman, has been playing since as long as he can remember. Hobart plays catcher and first base for the JV team. When asked what his personal goal for the season was, he stated that "I need to be the best I can be, and get ten RBI's by the end of the season." This seems to ring true for many of the players. The team believes that if they play as a team they will have much success this season. Ian Skjegstad, sophomore, has been playing since he was seven years old and is the pitcher for the team. When asked what the team's weakness was, He replied with, "[I believe that we need to work] on building teamwork and trusting each other." However, the team has very good hitters and and good offense. What are you looking forward to most was asked to which Skjegstad replied with "I am looking forward to getting wins and playing with the boys." The boys seem to be the most nervous for the games against Chico and PV. They need to work as a team, be aggressive on defense and have an amazing offense to pull a win on these teams. The team has 3 wins and 3 losses in league, and 6 wins, and 9 losses overall, which is not bad to start off the season. When asking Colton Youngblood, sophomore, what his personal goal was, he replied with "My personal goal is to make a diver by the end of the season." His personal strength is fielding and Youngblood believes that his weakness is batting. He wants to improve on these aspects of the game. The junior varsity baseball team has a pretty good outlook on the season and are all enjoying spending time with their teammates. They also aspire to be the best their team can be and pull as many wins as they can. Their next game is against Chico High school at home. The game take place at 4:00 pm.
