"We've been planning for months, working to grow this year's festival and make it bigger and better for all to enjoy. We're always happy to showcase our town when residents and visi- tors come out to share in this annual day of fun, activities, food, music and many entertaining things to do," said George Kirby, president of the BBA. Annual Iron City Festival The return of a car show and the customary tribute to the train industry with a miniature exhibit leave plenty of room for "must do" stops in between. This year's schedule will be packed with activities for all ages from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the downtown area. Toss in some good music, food, vendor shopping and activi- ties for the children in a free kids' zone with a petting zoo and the day promises to be jam-packed with all a family needs to spend an early spring Saturday in Blacksburg. A health fair, mobile mammography, miniature train exhibit, petting zoo and inflatables are all free events. A stop at the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a little browsing of one's history and genealogy, plus checking out the bookmobile, fire safety house and Cherokee County Sheriff's Crime Unit can all happen within a couple of blocks in the downtown area. Concerts nearby will feature Zeb and Virginia Starnes, Behind the Cross, the Jeff Gates Band, Ben Gatlin, Freddie Vanderford, Cadence Band and Tom Fisch.
