GROVER ST., SHELBY, NC NEW TAOTAO 50CC SCOOTERS Car Stereo Equipment TURKEY GUNS A 12-gauge shotgun with a 3-inch chamber is probably the favorite of most turkey hunters but a 20-gauge will also do a good job at reasonable ranges and its lighter weight and recoil make it better for women and young hunters. No matter what turkey gun you use, you need to do three things before taking it hunting. First, shoot it at a turkey head target to make sure it hits where it is aimed. Guns that shoot nearly a foot off the point of aim are not unheard of and that means a missed or wounded bird. Individual guns can be picky about shot size and load. Try several loads to find one your gun shoots best. Finally, find out how far your gun shoots a good pattern. That is your maximum range. The "best" range for most 12-gauge guns is about 40 yards and 30 yards for a 20-gauge. Use whatever load of shot works best in your particular gun. I fall somewhere in-between. I used to spend more time learning about new gadgets but now I sort of just maintain until I'm forced to adapt or be left behind. One of the things that I'm trying to adapt to is my digital camera. I know, I know, don't laugh. I've actually had the camera for a couple of years but all I've been doing is taking pictures the simplest way I could. I just thought all of the buttons were there so they could sell it for more. (I feel the same way about my cell phone. Why can't they just give me big numbers, lots of volume, and plenty of light?) I di- gress. I've always wanted to take pictures while I'm hunting or fi shing but I never knew how to set up the timer feature. So, this year I was determined (forced) to learn. I was tired of looking at all my pictures and always having the check-in station in the background. It sort of lost the effect of the hunt. This turkey season I've become a picture taking monster. I carry my bipod and my camera and have taken some really neat shots of me hold- ing a turkey while in the woods. I love it. Now while I've really enjoyed the more realistic pictures, they still don't tell the VISIT KNOX HAVEN IRIS GAR- DEN and choose the Iris you would like to have in your garden next Spring! 704-538-8955. Each photo still has only three basic features; me, a turkey, and the woodsy background. The story is up to me to remember and relish, and share. If I were to show you one of these pic- tures you would simply admire the bird but be clueless to the effort that was involved in getting that gobbler from the limb to the lens. You might have as- sumed that it was an easy and effortless hunt. And you may be wrong or right. When you and I look at each other we often do the same thing. We take a mental picture and quickly add our own story, whether that story is accurate or not. We may assume that a person is rude or kind, arrogant or humble, aloof or approachable. However, most of the time, we just don't know. Life is so much better when we give others the benefi t of the doubt. It seems that we all default to seeing the bad and the negative. It's the fi rst button we learn to use on our mental camera. Maybe it's time that we all realized there are other features that may give us a better look. And maybe it's time that we learned to use them. ww outdoortruths.or 18 Holes Includes Cart Specials $15 $20 $10 $15 Must Have Coupon 32' CONQUEST MOTORHOME Gulfstream 2000 Model.
