C-2 Church Wednesday, December 16, 2015 The Press-Dispatch Dear Santa Paws, For Christmas bring me squeaky toys and treats: no clothes or hats: I repeat no clothes or hats. This week, PAWS is fea- turing an adorable young pup named Wicky, who is a Beagle in every sense of the word. She is cute, loves other dogs and cats, is mischievous and would love to find a family to take her home for Christ- mas. Wicky and her sister Wacky were brought into PAWS several weeks ago. They were found aban- doned on a country road. Wacky was adopted re- cently, and Wicky is quite lonely and fearful without her. Wicky needs a special family to help bring her out of her shell and give her confidence to be the great dog she could be. To adopt Wicky, call 812-354-9894. PAWS pet of the week Church news Continued from page 1 Continued on page 3 This week PAWS is featuring an adorable young pup named Wicky, who is getting excited for Christmas and would loved to be adopted by some loving family. To adopt Wicky, call 812-354-9894. ALFORD U.M. CHURCH The sermon title for the 10 :45 a.m. service is "O Lit- tle Town of Bethlehem" us- ing scripture from Micah 5: 2-5. Join us as we prepare our hearts for Christmas. Everyone is welcome. Bob Tipton, Pastor AYRSHIRE VALLEY G.B. CHURCH Sunday school 9:30 a.m., Jim King, superintendent, Paul Couts, assistant; morn- ing worship 10 :30 a.m.; Sunday evening 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday evening Bible study 6:30 p.m. Services will be dismissed Sunday night, Dec. 20 to at- tend the community Christ- mas service at Winslow Chris- tian Church at 6 p.m. New Year's Eve service will begin with refreshments at 7 p.m. at the fellowship hall, with a short service follow- ing. Pastor Frank Coleman is in charge of the service. "My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: for length of days, and long life and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart; so shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man: and lean not unto thine own understanding" (Proverbs 3:1-5). You are welcome to worship with us in any or all our ser- vices. Frank Coleman, Pastor Eleanor Bellamy, Reporter GR ACE G.B. CHURCH 1007 E. Union St. Winslow Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship service 10 :32 a.m.; Sunday evening worship 6:02 p.m.; Wednes- day, Bible study 6 p.m. Rocky Wrye, Pastor LIGHTHOUSE RECOVERY CENTER Come and be with us on Monday night at 7 p.m. for the Overcomers class with Paul and Mary Becker; Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. with Steve Kirby for those on second shift and Thursday night at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 19, Chris Hughes will be bring- ing the word. Jesus' Authority In a football game, the pow- er of big, strong, muscular men is ruled by a man with a striped shirt and a whis- tle. The referee alone has ul- timate authority in the game. He alone has the power to stop the game and even throw re- bellious players off the field. That's the type of authority Jesus claims for Himself. In spite of Satan's attempts to control the universe and the affairs of men, Jesus wears the striped shirt and carries the whistle. He controls the field of play. If we are going to accomplish His mission, we must operate under His authority. Bob Shepherd, Reporter NEW BEGINNING FELLOWSHIP WESLEYAN CHURCH Petersburg Sunday morning worship 10 :30 a.m. We are committed to the life-giving Christian faith that is guided by God's Word. Our vision—trans- forming lives, churches and communities through the hope and holiness of Jesus Christ. You are invited to worship with us. Everett Freels, Pastor NEW LIBERTY G.B. CHURCH Coe Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., Faron McLaugh- lin, Superintendent, Ryan Edrington, Assistant and Sunday morning worship at 10 :30 a.m. Merry Christmas from New Liberty G.B. Church. Ryan filled in for Pastor Pancake as he visited his family for Christmas. We should show our religion to others by saying "Merry Christmas." A fter all, there would be no holiday without Christ. We appreciated Ry- an and his message on be- ing bold. December 20 will be our Christmas Program. Rev. Pancake and Ruby are in charge of the program. Pike County schools will begin their Holiday Break following a full day the 18th. School will resume on Mon- day, January 4. Winter begins on Decem- ber 21. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are coming quickly. Spend your time with family and friends. On December 27, the Asst. Teachers will be teaching and the offering will go into the Building Fund. Pray for all of the sick, those in need and those who have lost loved ones. Our Mission Statement: Loving the 99, always look- ing for the one. Gary Pancake, Pastor Ivan Mason, Reporter PLEASANT RIDGE G.B. CHURCH Sunday morning worship 10 :30 a.m. Everyone is always welcome. We want to thank God for His mercy, love and answered prayer. Continue to pray for one another, the unsaved, the prayer list, for all who are trav- eling, for the sick and needy, for the ones in hospitals and nursing homes, for the mili- tary and their families, our President and his family, and all decisions that are made. If you need spiritual help or in- formation, call Dale or Terri at 812-789 -2348. Remember to pray for heal- ing for our divided country, for protection for our babies, for our families, our jobs and our religious freedoms. We want to extend our sym- pathy to anyone who has lost a loved one. There is a purpose in every- thing on our lives. Have a pos- itive attitude and don't let any- thing sour you and steal your joy. Don't let things "bug" you...rise above it. Be happy in spite of what you have to deal with. It's not all about us; it is advancing God's kingdom and helping those in need. Restoration always seems to bring joy. "...the ransomed of the Lord will go home along that road to Zion, singing the songs of everlasting joy. For them, all sorrow and all sigh- ing will be gone forever, only joy and gladness will be there" (Is. 35:10 NIV ). Remember: "This is the day the Lord has made; we will re- joice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24). Thought: We need to do what God wants us to do. Don't settle for less...go for God's best. Have a great week. Dale Frederick, Pastor Lois K. Fowler, Reporter SPURGEON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Church service 9 a.m.; Sunday school 10 a.m. Pray daily for those on our prayer list. Read Matthew 2:1-11. "The magi saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and wor- shiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts" (Matthew 2:11). All we can do is accept God's gift with joy, then al- low that gift – Jesus Christ – to become a part of who we are. Everyone welcome to come and worship. Keith Jenkins, Sr., Pastor LIVING FAITH CHURCH INTERNATIONAL Read James 1:2-8 You know, we don't like to talk about these scriptures sometimes because we don't think they are very encour- aging. However, the instruc- tion here in handling trials is invaluable. Count it all Joy The word "count" has the connotation of command- ing authority. It could read something like this...Use the authority that has been given you to command joy when you are surrounded by trials. God has not given us the trial, but God will take what the devil has meant for good and use it for our benefit. Let Patience have its Perfect Work Perfection (Maturi- ty) comes when we allow the patience that comes through standing in faith come to its full maturity in us. When you stand in faith and see God's power work in your circumstance, it builds your faith into some- thing unshakable. Faith and patience must work togeth- er to see the promise come to pass. Ask for Wisdom So one may ask, what do I do while I wait? The answer is in the next scripture. Ask for wisdom. Allow God to lead you and His Spirit to tell you what to say, what to do, when to say it and when to remain quiet. He also will not chide, taunt, or degrade us in the process of giving us wisdom. He won't give us a hard time. Don't Doubt There is a BIG but in this scripture. If we are double minded about the situation, we won't receive our answer. When the enemy brings the thought that is contrary to the promise that God has given you, instead of listen- ing to him, take the word and with Authority, com- mand Joy. The Word works every time. God is moving on our behalf and as we stand and believe, we will see God's promise come to pass. Be encouraged today and count it all joy. CHURCH Hwy. 56, Cato Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; church service 10 :30 a.m. You are welcome to come join us this Sunday. There will be a special treat await- ing you after the service. Make it a special Christ- mas by attending a church of your choice. As we are entering this time of the year, let us re- member what the Christ- mas season is all about. This is the season that most people consider the most wonderful time of the year. Remember those that have lost loved ones this past year, those that are visiting hospitals and homes of seriously ill fam- ily and friends during the holidays, also our country, the military, our church- es, and each other in our prayers. We hope to see you in church this Sunday. Bob Strain, Pastor Katherine Burkhart, Re- porter RUMBLETOWN FREE METHODIST CHURCH "But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, "Abba, Father." Now you are no longer a slave but God's own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir" (Gala- tians 4:4-7 NLT). Paul explains exactly what Christmas means: when we accept Jesus as our Savior, He becomes our Brother and we become God's own children. Merry Christmas, indeed. PISGAH GENER AL BAPTIST CHURCH "Christ Jesus has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God" (1 Peter 3;22). What proofs did Jesus offer that He was truly God come in human form? First, there was the proof of His perfect life. He could ask, "Which of you con- victs me of sin? " ( John 8:46) and no one could answer. Sec- ond, there was evidence of His miraculous power. His pow- er was the power of God Al- mighty. Third, there was the evidence of fulfilled prophe- cy. Hundreds of years before His birth, the prophets of the Old Testament spoke precise- ly of His death and resurrec- tion. Fourth, there was the evi- dence of His resurrection from the dead. Fifth, there is the proof of changed lives. Christ alone, the divine Son of God, has the power to change the human heart. And He does. Faith in Christ is not a "leap in the dark."It is based on the solid facts of Christ's life, death and resurrection. Thank God we have a solid foundation in Him.
