This week's post- card is #534 with four points of interest: "Aloah from Kauai" the Napali Cliffs, Kilauea Falls, Polihale Beach and a wild rooster. On the oth- er side it said: Barb and Norm: They call this the Garden Isle . . . It reminds me of Pike Coun- ty, except with whales."—Al- lan Thank you Allan for this fine postcard and "Garden Isle" looks like it was too beau- tiful to leave with cliffs, falls, beaches and the wildlife crea- tures. If you have a card to share with all our stars the address is Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598. When the hail passed last Friday, some autos were dam- aged, but all is now okay. The area was so pretty when it snowed. Winslow got about 1- 1/2 to 2" and Ferdinand got 3". I took Kyana to the bus stop and before the bus came to a complete stop it slid for a few inches. In the coming weeks find out more info about the April 21 Morel Mushroom contest at the Riverside Park, and April 23 Culpepper and Meriweath- er Circus in Winslow for all the Pike County kids. Contact any Winslow Lion member. St. Patrick's Day celebra- tion in Ireland this Saturday will be a big family time to- gether and see the first pa- rade of the year. Lucy Gamble, Norm and I recently traveled to Corydon to cast our vote to represent the Winslow Lions Club. When you changed your clock forward an hour last week, how many got that ex- tra sleep we lost and went to bed early on Saturday. Don't feel bad, I think I lost more than an hour of sleep. The lights are about to dim for this week, but as before keep an eye open for family and friends and do what you can to help them out. Slow down and enjoy what nature is out there to see, and as I will always say smile, wave and say hi to everyone you see this week. "Happy St. Patrick's Day." Pike-Gibson Water special membership meeting On Thursday, March 29 at 6 p.m. at the Wood Me- morial High School Cafe- torium, the Pike-Gibson Water Company is hold- ing a "Special Member- ship Meeting" for the pur- pose of opting out of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). Pike-Gibson is one of only 85 water utilities still under the IURC jurisdiction. The other 362 cities and towns and 80 not-for-profit mem- ber owned water utilities have opted out of the IURC. One of the reasons the Board has decided to opt out of the IURC is increas- ing costs due to IURC reg- ulations. An example is the 2008 rate increase that was needed to maintain and ef- ficiently operate the water system. This rate increase cost the utility approximately $20,000 for IURC approv- al. The process took sev- en months, which caused Pike Gibson Water to draw from reserve funds. Re- serve funds are established to fund emergencies, capi- tal improvements and pay back loans. By opting out of the IURC, required rate in- creases would be at a low- er percentage, because the rate increase would not need to include addition- al costs to obtain IURC ap- proval nor pay an annual fee of $1451.04 to be a mem- ber of the IURC. Pike-Gibson Water is managed by a nine mem- ber Board of Directors elected by the membership at the Annual Membership Meeting. The board mem- bers serve for three years and elections are staggered with three elected annually. The elected Board Mem- bers and staff monitor the financial status of the util- ity to insure the utility is Praise and worship service March 25 The Gentle Shepherd Church of God is holding a Praise and Worship service at 6:30 p.m. CDT on Sunday, March 25.
