Sports Rebecca Blanchard Staff Writer So far this season, the var- luffer sity Baseball team has played five games and still has many more to come. Though they are looking forward to many of the games, two games in particular are being anticipated. "I am looking forward to playing Pleasant Valley and Chico," said Taylor Figgs, se- nior. Fellow senior Tyler Reed, who added that the two teams are the Spartans largest compe- tition, seconded this. Between physical and mental strategies, the team plans on improving to beat their competitors. Accord- ing to Figgs, they must put time in at practice so that they can withdraw at the actual game. According to Coach Gal- laty other ways that the team prepares for games are that we make sure the pitchers are rested and prepared to compete at their best. We Review our of- fensive signs and plays, work on our defensive communica- tion and physical play making, we review the way we want to run the bases and the reads we need to get to execute. We work JV boys league champs Now that boys JV basketball Armando Aguilar Staff Writer season is over they have some- thing to brag about. They won league this year. They were 8-5 in league and 17- 9 overall. With ups and downs this season they managed to pull through. "It was great to win league and be champs," said Garrett Ward. They have had many high- lights in their season other than winning league. They have won two of the three tournaments that they have competed in. "Taking first in preseason tournaments was a highlight," said Austin Smith. This JV team has also had a couple of lowlights in their season. Some of them would have been the PV tournament finishing the season with a 8-5 league record and losing a stretch of games by more than twenty points. "Definitely the PV Tourna- ment was a bad part," said Gar- rett Ward. The team has also grown as the season progressed. They improved on defense and offense and being a team according to Garrett Ward. "We played hard, did the right thing, and turned bad into good," said Head Coach Mr. Michael. Next year many of the play- ers plan to step up to the next level and play on the Varsity squad. "I'm going to try my hardest to be on Varsity next year," said Austin Smith. Overall, they were satisfied in how the season went along and how it ended up being. They came out of the season as league champions. JV girls go 12-1 Claire Samay Staff Writer The Red Bluff J.V girls bas- ketball team didn't quite meet their goal of being undefeated this year, but ended the season 12-1. "Our goal was to go unde- feated and we didn't reach our goal this year, but our hopes for next year are to work togeth- er as a team, get along well, and go undefeated in league" said post player Brit- tany Clatty. According to Hannah Wood- 8-5 17-9 worked hard each and every day not only as an individual but also as a team," said Assis- tant Coach Haley Carter. Next year Clatty is going to JV BBall Standings Boys Girls League Overall Overall League 12-1 20-2 Standings updated as of 3-6-12 not only focus in the games, but work harder in practices. "We bonded well as a team and we had a lot of laughs" said Woodall. Overall, the season went well and they enjoyed playing and working to- gether Clatty added. According to the team, it was a season to remember and they look forward to playing next year. Weight kills wrestling Claire Samay Staff Writer Spartan wrestling ends their season with many goals reached and challenges to meet next season. They struggled with weight classes not being filled throughout the season, but worked hard to develop team support. What they lacked in weight they made up for it in team commitment. On a good note, several seniors reached there goals. Senior wrestler Bryce Eggert got the experience of wrestling at state, ending his Red Bluff wrestling career. He wrestled 172 weight class in Bakersfield and accomplished winning three out of his five matches in a 40 man bracket. According to Eggert the season went really good and he was happy to end the season by going to state. "I was sad its all over but it felt good going to state, I wish I would have placed higher," said Eggert. "One of our goals were to grow more as a team because we knew we would lack a lot of wrestlers, so our goal was to be there to support each other," Gabe Rivera added. "Even though we didn't win a lot of matches ,we tried our best and supported each other," said Gabe Rivera Senior wrestler Gabe Rivera pointed out that it was a great season overall, and team wise they grew together. "Making it to sections I never thought I would reach that goal cause I started wrestling as a freshman, I didn't think I would meet that goal." Rivera summarized. A highlight of the season for Kyle Case was the Holiday Classic because he had a tie until third round, and then he won his match. Overall the wrestlers worked hard to support each other throughout the season, giving them an advantage over other teams that do not have that commitment. Page 8 Baseball begins season on driving the ball to the oppo- site field by staying back and attacking the inside half of the baseball. On the other hand, the team must also prepare mentally and be together as a team to win. "We believe we can do any- thing with hard work," said Reed. Reed also added that they need to stay together as a team. Senior Modesto Ramirez said that they need to become a family. The most challenging thing about baseball is hitting, field- ing, and pitching can be very trying said Gallaty. Along with that, two other challenges that have come up are communication and trans- portation. However, despite the challenges, the team does have good chemistry. "Here at Red Bluff, we are blessed with some high charac- ter, fun kids with a ton of per- sonality!" said Gallaty. With league coming up in such a short amount of time the Spar- tans plan on keeping the inten- sity up according to Reed. According to KJ Hinkston, as a team we will keep getting better". At the beginning of the sea- son, Sam Geveden suffered a major injury, a broken fibula.
