Arts & Becca Blanchard Staff Writer Though it was good, Project X, starring Thomas Mann as Thomas, Oliver Cooper as Costa, and Jonathan Daniel Brown as Jb, is honestly not all it was hyped up to be. The past few weeks you could scarcely look anywhere without seeing an advertisement for the new movie about a wild party thrown by three high school students. This movie had the opportunity to be great, but it simply lacked in to many places. First and foremost, it was choppy. Not in how it was edited, but in its plot. It seemed undeveloped and contrived. On the other hand, the few examples of an actual plot were simply depressing. This may seem reasonable, every movie must have a sad moment or two to keep you on the edge of your seat; will the movie's protagonist get the girl? Yet in Project X, it just seems like non-connected problems that just barely fit in with the shabby plot were casually dropped in during the last few hours before the premier. Secondly, the conflict surrounding one of the characters was just to Entertainment Page 4 March 9, 2012 'Project X' lacks in many places done well. Along with that, most of the jokes were quality and got a good laugh from the audience. The two children characters were a large source of laughter throughout the whole film; along with that, the neighbor and Costa had a hilarious chemistry and were sure to bring a large laugh or setup for a new scene. These redeeming qualities were Top Left: Their house party gets out of con- trol as people start jumping off the roof. Bottom Left: Thomasʼ dog bounces around in the bounce house. Throughout the film this character is chewed up and spit out like an old toy, you would think that in the end there would be a happy ending for him. Despite two large setbacks in this film, it did have many smaller redeeming qualities. 'Tumblr' micro-blogging app unlike 'Twitter' and 'Facebook' Shelby Keeler Topics Editor Whether it's Facebook or Twitter, most people in this day in age of social networking put their thoughts and opinions out on the web. More times than not they post their ideas or typical posts through their smart phones. But a form of expressing ging oneself is sometimes forgotten, and this form is blogging. "Tumblr", is a microblog- site and app that can hold several purposes whether it's posting or "re-blogging" items like: pictures, quotes, links, chat, or videos. Although you can post practically all of these items to your Facebook, Tumblr provides a "dash" of something new, and refreshing. Once you have registered F a c e b o o k Newsfeed, but the "Dash" is more enticing. You can blog anything by simply searching for #tags. If there is a particular #tag that captures your attention you can "track" this #tag and a list of tumblr the hottest blogging site on the internet right now. Some cons with the Tum- blr App itself is that you can not directly search these #tags although you can reblog them from people you follow. " Project X took a large risk with how Instead spending your money on this film, wait until it comes out on DVD, and rent it. they filmed the movie, filming it to look handheld and rather shaky, this could have gone horrendously wrong, however this was probably its most redeeming quality. Along with that, it did have many short instances of excitement that were enjoyable, but not enough to make up for the contrived plot and poor use of characters with potential. If you do go to see Project X, you will be disappointed due to all of the hype, cringe at some scenes that just were not done justice, and you will leave the theater unsure how you felt about it. If you do not go to see it, it won't be then end of the world. Instead spending your money on this film, wait till it comes out on DVD, and rent it. Don't waste your money on this movie. 'Reddit' the website that has basically everything Josiah Vasey Staff Writer The internet has a lot of cool things to do and stuff to see. But one of the coolest things to see is a website called "Reddit." "Reddit" is a site that has pretty much anything. It mainly consists of links to all kinds of things, from pictures to forums. You see, "Reddit" is made up of hundreds of mini websites called "sub-reddits", represented by /r/ and then the subject of the sub-reddit. These sub-reddits can be on any topic. For example, /r/funny has all kinds of funny pictures and stories submitted by "Reddit's" users, who are called redditors. /r/guitars has advice and lessons for people who like to play the guitar. There are a huge amount of these sub-reddits, which range from small to huge communities, with their own slang. "Reddit" uses a system of upvotes and downvotes to determine the popularity of a post. If you upvote something, the post gains one more upvote and if you downvote something, it loses one of it's upvotes. Posts with lots of upvotes will be showed on the front page and will be the first thing you see when you go on to "Reddit." "Reddit" is not just about fun and games. "Reddit" has helped people all around the world. For example, a man named Anthony Omar was working at a Kenyan orphanage when it was attacked by a group of thieves. Anthony defended the orphanage, but took a machete to the face as a price. Someone posted this story to "Reddit" and soon, people were donating to help the orphanage. Soon, "Reddit" ha donated 80,000 dollars to help the orphanage get better security and improve the lives of the orphans. Another time someone posted a story to "Reddit" about a terminal cancer patient who had one last wish: To finish his favorite book series, "The War that Came Early". Redditors everywhere started to send letters to the author, telling the story of this poor, dying man. Then, the author sent an advanced and unreleased copy of the second-to-last book and promised to call and tell the patient about the end of the series. "Reddit" is an entertaining and immensely helpful site that I recommend to anyone. It has a lot of fun content to keep you laughing and helpful posts that can help you out in a tough situation. If you had a problem, you can simply post it to /r/Askreddit and someone is bound to help you out. A website that is entertaining and fun and can come together, in times of need.
