State and local officials gathered Tuesday, January 3rd to celebrate the projected 166 jobs and $17 million investment in Cleveland County. Baldor Electric Company is the North American leader in industrial electric motors and headquartered in Fort Smith, Ark. The company begin manufacturing motors in Kings Mountain in 1983 and with the growing demand for wind-powered technology and their acquisition of ABB, will be opening a new facility in the former Copeland building. The Cleveland County Economic Development Partnership worked closely with the NC Department of Commerce, NC Community Colleges, NC Rural Economic Development Center, Gardner-Webb University, Cleveland County, the City of Shelby, and Duke Energy. This project was made possible in part through use of a $400,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.
